Where would y’all recommend to play one day in the Atlanta area or somewhere nearby?

Was going to start this thread in a couple weeks. Going to be there 4 days in July and want to play at least 3 of those mornings while my wife is at market.

Lot depends on what part of town you are staying in to help me give recs. There's decent to good golf on almost any side of town.
Look forward to your response.

I’ll be staying downtown. I’ll have nothing else to do on those days though, so don’t mind a 30 or 45 minute drive.
Just don’t send me to the priciest or the ghetto.

Alright, that gives me some things to work with then.
Close to where you'll be is Bobby Jones GC. It's a City of Atlanta course, but don't let that fool you. It was redone about 5 years ago and features a reversible 9 hole course, so you play it one direction for the first 9 and in the opposite direction for the second 9. I've played it and it was interesting in a good way.
Up 75 towards Marietta is City Club Marietta. It's the old Marietta CC course and it's a fun track. Short with very small greens.
Out 20 east of town is Cherokee Run in Conyers. A little closer to town in that direction is Stone Mountain which has 2 courses. Head west on 20 to Villa Rica and look at The Frog. One of my favorite courses around the area.
Last option is Heritage Golf Links up 85 toward Greenville SC. It's just outside the perimeter and has 27 holes. Not my favorite track as I think it's quirky hard and borderline unfair, but that's my opinion.
There's 4-6 options for you. If I can help any more, let me know.

If you are a decent golfer and don’t mind 40-45 minute drive then I would highly recommend Echelon Golf Club.
I live in north Atlanta area and it’s the best bang for your buck and beautiful
It’s in Alpharetta

You can knock out both of these at East Lake.

If you are a member of a country club, get your pro to ask for a reciprocal deal @ Druid Hills. I did this last summer. Green fee was $165. It is very close to downtown area & a fantastic course.

Would risk it for East Lake. Just slide that seat back and lower it a little.

It was a fun experience to play once, but I don't have to do it again. Green fee + caddy fee + caddy tip + pro shop merch = an expensive day.
The course was fine, but if I didn't see it on TV every year, I wouldn't remember more than a handful of holes.

Echelon was called White Columns when it first opened. I was a club pro in that area then.
Fantastic track, but I was under the impression it had gone private. If not, definitely add this one to my list.

Echelon Golf club opened years after White Columns…white columns has definitely been around longer
Echelon is semi-private so you can get a tee time…it’s still a great track!!

Btw, I’m going to be alone and will be playing during the week most likely.

Nope, they are two different courses. White Columns is still around and is private, Echelon was private and is now semi-private but allows public play. Echelon was the course built for the Georgia Tech team. It went bankrupt once and was sold for pennies on the dollar to a. Private individual. Both are really nice courses. The only problem with Echelon is people don't know how to fix a ball Mark in the greens.

St Marlo, River Pines, Bears Best are a couple other good courses about 30 minutes north of town. Also, Chateau Elan has a couple courses open to the public. A little further out, but probably better courses too.

I've played a lot of the courses mentioned so far. My thoughts:
Bobby Jones GC - fun little 9-holes close to downtown. There is also the Charlie Yates 9-hole course that East Lake supports (it is across the street from E Lake) for another quick golf outing option.
Chateau Elan - worth the drive out there; 2 different 18s and a 9 hole par 3 that is basically a pitch and put; also has a winery, bourbon house, and Irish pub associated with the property.
Cherokee Run in Conyers - think it trys to be mostly private; not worth the public green fees IMHO
Cobblestone - interesting, tight course that is partly exposed to a small reservoir/lake that makes for some nice views and tough par 3s.
The Frog - bit of a drive but nice course.
Stone Mountain - heard good things.

I stand corrected. I was well out of the golf business by the time Echelon opened. Was that the original name or would I know it by a different one?
I don't recall hearing about it when it opened and was wondering if I might know it by a different name.
ETA: Woodmont GC in Canton or Callahan Links in that same area are both good public options as well.

It opened under the name Georgia Tech Club I believe. It quickly changed to Echelon. It is very close to White Columns so that's probably why you thought they were the same
There were four courses in that area that seemed to intermix with each other. Two are now closed and turned into neighborhoods.
