I'd imagine golfing in bowling shoes would be difficult.

Nope.

I see people playing in regular tennis shoes and I wonder why they would want to mess up the regular shoes ?

Have you seen Scottie Scheffler come out of his shoes swinging his driver? I think he could be wearing flip-flops and it wouldn’t matter.

Thread hijack.

What’s with people golfing barefoot?

I go outside barefoot all the time so I’m not hating, I just don’t see why it’s become a thing?

I practiced barefooted all through college. Forced me to focus on balance and not overswing.

Yes. Depends on footwork I guess. If you have proper footwork and you are aggressive then you definitely need

I learned in sneakers when I was 15. Went from beginner to a 10 in 18 months. Unless the grass is really wet, you don't really need it.
Some regular shoes, especially running shoes, have as much tread/nubbies as some soft spike shoes.

I ditched golf shoes 10 years ago. I looked at tennis shoes with the same bottom that most golf shoes have at about 40.00 cheaper. Easy choice.

I like golf shoes because the ones I get are waterproof for the early morning dew. If I wear tennis shoes, my feet get soaked.

Yes, they are necessary imo. I’m sure as I age and my swing speed slows down they probably won’t matter as much.

Nothing worse than your back foot slipping during a shot. Also, for bunker shots I like to get a nice, stable base and dig in. I feel golf shoes help you feel confident in your stance as opposed to wearing regular shoes with a slick bottom.

Pretty much this. I do prefer the extra grip but I really just don't want to get my tennis shoes dirty or my feet wet. My golf shoes clean up a lot easier than my tennis shoes.

Depends on you swing I guess.. I wear spiked shoes when I play because I slip..

When I practice I have spikeless because I'm not going after it and working on technique more that trying to hit it at 100%

I think "golf" sneakers have reinforcement for lateral foot stability versus traditional tennis shoes.

I could have just made that up though.

Two of my best rounds were when I forgot my golf shoes and played in regular sneakers.

I don't know what the term would be, but there is definitely a difference.

I have some New Balance tennis shoes and some New Balance golf shoes that are the same style, just in a different color. The NB golf shoes are water resistant and definitely stiffer/lock your ankles in place for more support.

There's also really no cost difference between the two so I don't really have a reason not to get the golf shoes for golf.
