Has anyone done a LAB fitting at a Club Champion or other fitting place? Has to be better than the online video fitting. Screw it i like shiny things and will probably do this in the DFW area when I am there in Feb. What are your experiences?

We had a kid put with us a few weeks ago at Santa Maria. When he pulled it out I told him it looked like a SR-71 Blackbird. He had no clue what I was talking about. But I will say this. He didn’t miss inside six feet. Said he shaved 4-6 shots a round off his score. I asked what made him buy it and if he was fitted, he said no that he watched IG videos.

I've heard that the online fitting is pretty accurate actually. There are a few threads on GolfWRX where people have been fitted online and in person and have pretty much gotten the same results.

The online fitting is pretty accurate from what I've heard.

Also, a place like club champion, at least the one by me, wouldn't fit just a lab to me. They wanted me to go through with their entire putter fitting which was like 200 or some crazy bullshite.

I went to Timberlane on the wank and the club pro there fitted me in 3 minutes with an adjustable lab putter. Luckily for me, I fit right into the stock specs so I saved a few bucks not having to get a custom one.

I love it.

I would do the online before going to Club Champion. I bought a stock one to try out while i contemplated buying one custom. All they are really measuring is lie angle and putter length. With those putters, that's all that really matters. You will have to adjust your stroke somewhat to fit the putter, but it's damn near automatic if you're comfortable with it.

PGA Tour Superstore in Houston fitted me for my DF3.. the store had the adjustable fitting putter. I knew that I was going to buy a DF3 so I just wanted to get my lie and length specs..
If you order from them, the fitting the fee is waved.
Saved me the $100 fitting fee so I upgraded the shaft.

I have a Mezz Max, played it for two seasons now and love it.

The online fitting works fine and there’s no real need to do anything in person . They may send back some info on your stance and swing that needs to be adjusted before they can do a proper fitting. For instance they said I needed to make sure that my eyes were centered up over the ball. I worked on that for a week and resent the video and got my fitting back.

You can take your info and go to the Lab outlet and buy something in your spec at about a $100 discount if you’re patient. Something will eventually one along in the spec you want and need.

i ordered it from dicks. received in 2 days and returned to local store. i ultimately didn't pull the trigger because i felt on marginally better than another i was comparing to at the time. ended up buying a used puter on ebay for like $200. now kind of wishing i'd stuck with the lab tbh

Just called the place that does the fitting here locally. $150 for the fitting then you order the putter online.

Seems like online fitting is the way to go.

That is criminal lol.

The fitting literally takes less than 1 minute of your time.

I took me about a solid week spending an hour or more after work putting on my indoor mat to finally figure it out. You basically have to put the ball position real forward in your stance. There’s also a LAB practice drill called”Thumbs Off” that will initially help a newbie. You can feel the putter head better with the thumbs off the grip to get a sense of the technology. Now I love my DF3. It’ll be a in the bag for a long time. Downside is that even with the free fitting the DF3 cost me $715 shipped..

Can someone who’s knowledgeable in putters and golf equipment explain what is so great about these compared to other putters besides custom length and lie angles?

All good putters have custom length and lie angle option. It just matters more for a lab. What's so special is basically you can't help but hit it with a square face, so ball goes straight. This article explains it well and includes a comparison test to traditional putters LINK

Wow. I'm a die hard Scotty Cameron guy. Got 10+ of them and that's all I've putted with for probably 20 years.

I'm sold. I'm buying a lab putter. It's worth a shot.

This was pretty well written actually...

quote:

Golfers have spent their whole lives being told that if they just buy the next new driver or training aid it will fix their game. But for decades we have all been left disappointed by nothing more than a gimmick or gadget. This time looks to be different. Name another golf product that can lower 80% of golfers scores by 1.5 strokes by doing nothing more than changing from one product to another? I’ll wait.

As the data indicates, the performance improvements could and probably should render conventional stroke-type putters obsolete in the near future. But, the question remains: Are you ready to embrace this change, or will tradition hold us back from the next leap in golfing technology?

So, is stroke type officially dead? Well not yet, but it is on life support. People still collect cassette tapes and CD’s but when is the last time you actually saw somebody use one? So, keep collecting them if you want, but just know they will most likely be collecting dust just like your favorite Nirvana Teen Spirit CD.
