LAB putter

Has anyone here switched to the weird looking LAB putter, if so, was it a game changer for you?
The local golf shop had a trade in sitting there so tried it out on the putting green at the store. I used the triple track Callaway ball and it stayed on line no matter where I hit it on the clubface. I have a Scotty Phantom 7, I like it but I'm not the best putter and don't hit it in the center of the clubface every time so I'm intrigued as to whether or not it's worth the investment.

Guys i've seen with them are pretty effective putting. But i think the putter will provide best results if its fit to your putting stroke and address to the ball. could have fair results with a "pre owned" club that was set up for someone else's stroke etc...

I got fitted for my LAB DF3, I only have 4 rounds on it but so far I love it. As the other post stated, you would benefit by getting the putter fitted for your lie angle and length. It took me a while to figure out the correct ball position. I ordered the Press Pistol 2 degree grip, that along with the center shaft made me place the ball position too far back in my stance. Once I started moving the ball position forward, everything clicked. I also ordered mine with the heavier head. I like the feel of the additional weight. It’s not for everyone but the stable feel of the face is great.

I tried them all out at my club - DF2.1, Link, Mezz, Mezz Max and DF3. DF2.1 was the best one (barely over DF3) but it's so hideous. Waited on the DF3 and I love that thing. I've had it in the bag since April and couldn't be happier. Put a Phantom X 11.5 away for it. Always had trouble with keeping the face square through impact. Not anymore. Slightly off center strikes on the heel or toe won't lose distance and will stay on line. Mine is 34", 70 degree lie angle. I'm a straight back, straight through putter and I can't imagine taking this one out of the bag. It's damn near perfect for what I want.
Now, it's still something else to look at but not nearly as bad as the DF2.1. The Mezz Max was a in the running but I just preferred the DF3 for performance, feel and acoustics.

I bought a stock DF3 at PGA Superstore a few months back after rolling it there a few different trips leading up.
I used to be a really good putter. I've tracked strokes gained putting for years and despite usually fluctuating between a 6-12 handicap my putting stats were consistently scratch or better for about 5 years. The last couple of years I've struggled putting to the point it was more in line with my handicap.
Since I switched to the DF3 I'm putting as well as I ever have. I'd definitely recommend putting in some practice before taking it to the course because it's a different feel during the stroke without torque but you can absolutely become more consistent with it.

I like everything about the putter as far as the science, quality materials and shaft choices.
The fitting process done right is very good as long as you putt the same way every time.
LAB seem like a very forward thinking company .
I just can't get past the looks of the current offerings, but I'm sure they will adapt and create more styles.

They certainly will. Their CEO was on the Club Champion fitters (Canadian guys - Ian and Mikey) youtube channel recently. He knows that the 2.1 was so bad that they had to do something. So they went with the Link and Mezz offerings and then the refinement to the DF3. It seems like that they will always be a little clunky looking because of trying to get the face balance right. The videos I've seen of their facility and process are pretty nuts. Their quality control seems to be pretty damn legit.
I know it's ugly and it will be a major roadblock to a lot of people but like you said in another thread, it won't be long before other companies are trying to use their tech (if they can get around patents of course).

How is it on long putts and distance control ?

I switched to mallet style putters a while back - Futura 7M, Spyder X, Phantom X 11.5 - all for better distance control so that's something I've gotten a ton better at over the years vs using blade putters. So the DF3 isn't all that different for me, but I will say this...the slightly off center strikes are on the same line with very little or no distance loss at all. I had our pro out there the other day on the putting green and we were marveling at how you could hit it toe or heel and still get the right distance on it. It's pretty remarkable.
Anecdotally, I've holed more long putts this season than I ever have. Now that could be more a factor of getting the ball started on the correct line more often because the face isn't twisting in my stroke - my main miss was always a pull to the left. I don't ever blame the putter anymore (maybe I shouldn't have before but there were times with the Scotty's where I felt like the face wanted to shut more during my stroke). I found the Mezz and Mezz Max a touch harder (that's being really picky though) on the distance control compared to the DF2.1 and DF3 but the biggest impediments to me were the acoustics and really muted feel on them. I wasn't the biggest fan although the ball rolled true. We have approximately 350 golfing members at our club now and I've seen no less than 10 with the DF3 in the bag. I bought the first one when we got them in April. So it's making a splash up here.
I like to tinker with my bag - a lot (not as much as you but I'm always making sure that my bag fits the course and my current game). This putter, my PXG 3H and my 4 Vokey wedges are the only clubs that are 100% safe. Ha.

Yes. It's the best putter I've ever owned. Been using it since it came out a couple years ago.
Also, OP don't go with the trade in. You need to get fit to make sure you have the correct length and lie angle.

Glad it's working for you.

PXG just came out with their version of a no torque mallet putter called the Allen. It even has a built in ball retriever. They also have a swing revealer to demonstrate that it stays stable throughout the swing. Price point is slightly lower than LAB but it’s still pricey. I’d be interested to see it in person.

That putter is more similar to the Axis 1 putter than LAB

I may run by the PXG store next week and check it out.

Anyone looking to experiment with torque putters need to try Edel. They can be found on eBay for cheap and they're excellent. Gamed a few of them.
I'd love to try a LAB putter but at the price point, I just cant see myself doing that.
I've got a Cobra with the SIK face and it's a dream come true. Firm believer in the face tech.

Before I fell for the LAB hype, I was seriously considering to getting fitted by Edel at their Austin area studio. I’ve got three rounds on the LAB DF3 so far and plenty of practice at home on my putting mat and I’m 100% sold on the LAB. My only downside is on really long putts I’m having issues getting the ball to the hole. Feels like I really have to put some arse into it for long lag putts.
