Many moons ago I played at Mallard Cove with my cousins a few times over the course of a few years. I enjoyed the course. This was the one by the airport. I am not in Lake Charles much, so my ear isn't on the rails so to speak. I understand that they have closed that course and opened up another one called Mallard Cove not far from there?

They have opened a new course, links style. I prefer the old layout, but that's just my opinion. We've been 2X and both times it took over 5 hours to play. My experience both times equal, overcrowded, groups of 5 that are very slow because they can't play, lots of drinking and loud music from carts. Not my kind of golf. Course was in good shape and it's not a bad layout. Maybe someone has a better experience.

Solid course. Typically in good condition, some of the green complexes are in close proximity, which gives the visual of crowds. Brand new clubhouse, nice facility. Range balls are expensive lol

Overall, nice place, unlike other courses we have here..

I like the new course, but check the wind before you go. What ever weather channel says for Lake Charles, add 10-15 if it is out of the South.

Rough is brutal and wind makes it tough. Tough to hold greens. I think it's a really cool course

Is The National and Gray Plantation not nice anymore? The Casino's?

I'd imagine the intent of the prior statement was referring to public courses. Gray is now a Private Club. One could also consider the Casino Courses to be semi-private, given the costs to play most days.

But to answer your question, the National is not what it used to be in terms of course conditions in my opinion. They also manage tee times extremely poorly, and there is a tendency for rounds to last 5+ hours.

As for Gray and the Casinos, those are still great courses.

All my opinion obviously, having lived in LC for the last 13 years. Currently a member at Lake Charles Country Club, which is in phenomenal shape currently.

Spot on with your assessment of The National.

I was fortunate enough to play the CC years back. Place is phenomenal, very mature..

LCCC is always in great shape every time I play it. Very fun and the members love to party after a round. Frick that signature par 4 hole though. Spinning wedges back into the water irks me. Pretty though

Mallard is a fun course imo. I think it’s great for a public course. You get some McNeese student riff-raff but it’s not different than any other public course. It’s links style with 0 trees. It can be a pretty hard course because the wind gets pretty rough without the tree coverage. I’d check the weather because it can be a slog if there’s a stiff wind.

Like some others have eluded to in this thread, LCCC is the best course in LC right now. Gray is getting much better now that it’s private, but CC just redid their greens 1.5yrs ago and some of the better greens I’ve played even outside LA. I’m a member and it’s worth every penny if you’re a golfer.
