So many good ones out there so it’s in the eye of the beholder but give it a shot so everyone can put them on their bucket lists.
I enjoyed the hell out of Money Hill in Abita yesterday. Very fun course so I’ll pick that one for my best private course. And the best public course I’ve played is Carter plantation. Always have fun out there.
How bout y’all?

CCLA
Carter Plantation
Top ones I have played. I have always played really well at Carter so that usually helps my impression too.

Is CCLA really that awesome? I’ve never set foot on property, but I’ve always heard great things like the fairways and greens are immaculate and all the cart girls are OT10s.

Course is great. Cart girls are not OT 10 in my experience

I hear Squire Creek is by far the best private course. I think Carter Plantation is probably the best public one I have played.

not even counting conditions CCLA has one of the best layouts in the State.
Nicklaus knocked it out of the park with this one.

I just joined Bayou Desiard and have played it twice. Where do you guys who have played a lot of the courses in the state rank it?

Squire Creek/CCL push imo
LaTour
LaTour

Bayou Desiard is a nice club, but it’s more about the old school country club atmosphere than it is about the course. The generally keep the course in good shape, but the layout is deficient since it is just a flat course and nothing very memorable.
Course alone - probably rank around #30
Country Club as a whole - probably rank around #20

Squire Creek is going to be the best course in the state.
CCLA is a close second. But I'm not a fan of neighborhood courses.
The competition is weak for the "best" public course in the state. We don't have great golf in Louisiana in general, and given the topography and weather, don't have many memorable public tracts. One big issue here is the condition of the courses are rarely maintained.
So in their premium condition The Bluffs, Carter Plantation, English Turn, TPC La, and LaTour are all comparable.
Threads like these always give me the sad knowing some of the great public courses that even nearby states have compared to Louisiana.

Never played Bluffs
I must have never seen Carter in peak condition, and once it was outright bad
ET was in good shape but I didn’t like the course
frick TPC
LaTour is my baby

Baton Rouge Country Club is the best conditioned private course I’ve played in the state. And I played TPC the Monday after the Zurich about 7 years ago and that was the best conditioned public course I had been on in the state.

It's frustrating now because it has the potential to be an incredible track. They just can't get enough play/members to keep it in excellent condition. Great, fair track that gives you scoring opportunities but will also penalize you for poor shots.
It would easily be #1 public on the list if they could keep it maintained.

Same. The Reese Jones remake of the greens/bunkering helped a ton out there. But the layout is limiting.
