I’m still rocking a set of big berthas from circa 2008ish.

I’m looking to get a new set, but not looking to break the bank as I’m not a super serious golfer. I play probably once a month.

What’s y’all’s recommendation?

Currently I’m swingin’ Callaway Apex irons, Epic Star woods, Vokey wedges, if that’s any help…

Look into Takomo Irons. Great clubs and a new set of irons will cost a little over $600. Do your research on them

So many great options now.

You should consider Sub70 as well.

Look online or at golf shops for a 2 year old set. They will be reasonably priced, still new(ish), and a substantial tech upgrade

Like a previous poster wrote, Takomo irons would be a good start, brand new for $600. There are different models that you can choose from depending on your skill level. You can also still buy brand new Taylormade Sim2 drivers for $299, It is one of the best drivers they ever came out with. If you're going to spend some serious cash on one club, I would buy a LAB putter, I bought one and it has helped me tremendously inside 10'. Any of the Vokey or Cleveland RTX wedges are good, those are the only clubs I wouldn't buy used, spend the money on new wedges that way the grooves are in new shape.

Since you only play once a month, I assume you're a high handicap golfer. You should buy a set of irons A wedge (gap wedge) through 6 iron. Use either hybrids or fairway woods for your 3, 4 and 5 iron. I like fairway woods the best, I don't like the look of the hybrid when it sets behind the ball, I don't have confidence in it. It's more of a personal choice so either is fine, Most Am golfers don't have the clubhead speed to get the long irons high enough in the air so the hybrid or fairway wood is the best bet. My set up is Driver, 5 wood set to a 4 wood loft, 7W, 9w, 5,6,7,8,9, P45, A50, 54 and 58, LAB DF3. I don't hit a 3 wood well so I don't use one. I only use my 5 iron for shots that need to stay low, like from under trees or trying to hit a low stinger into the wind, other than that I use my 9 wood.

Maltby has really nice stuff for any player and any budget. I just scored a set of the TS3 forged from Ebay, but only bought those instead of new because they were exactly what I would have ordered anyway. Also they will adjust them however you want.
