I currently use an overlap grip since starting to play last summer. I am considering switching to an interlock grip for better feel and control with my right hand.

What are the boards thoughts on the interlock grip providing better feel in the trail hand?

Anyone made this switch and stuck with it?

I did about 40 years ago. Interlock just seemed to improve consistency so I never looked back.

I think two things at play: comfort and results. I’ve never interlocked due to comfort and never found the results to be different.

I’ve found the putting grip to be more important as compared to irons/woods.

Baseball grip for me. Hey maybe that's why I suck.

Jack and Tiger: interlock.

Harry Vardon, Palmer, Hogan, Snead, Trevino, Tom Watson: overlap

Comes down to personal choice.
I interlock, but I don’t think it is better or worse.

I play interlock and don’t understand how anyone can hang onto the handle doing anything else.

What ever feels comfortable. I overlap, but can honestly play both, as I used to interlock. Both feel comfortable to me.

I’ve read that dudes with shorter/thicker fingers (like myself) do better with interlock and dudes with longer/thinner fingers do better with overlap. That said, I know people of all types that play with interlock, overlap and baseball with varying degrees of success. Can’t imagine changing after playing one was for an extended period of time. Would be like starting over

I grew up playing interlock, but then about 10 years ago I switched. Out of nowhere, it started to feel foreign. It makes absolutely no sense, but I’ve been overlap ever sense.

I made the opposite switch after my first season of college golf. Took me 3 months of daily range sessions to get comfortable. It allowed me to draw the ball more easily (especially with the driver) and I picked up 15 yards immediately.

A few of you say the interlock was more consistent. In your opinion, what about that grip brought about the consistency?

I started out with the overlap without trying the interlock, but the overlap just doesn’t feel right anymore.

I interlock but fade it more after making the switch. Overlap feels weird to me but I tend to draw it easier… I just don’t have confidence in overlap.

I have always used an overlap for more control of the clubface in my wrist.

I've tried the interlock...

I feel like I have no control when I interlock, plus it just feels weird to me.

Was taught to play using an interlock and used it for years, but somewhere along the line 20 years ago or so, I switched over to an overlap.

The interlock feels more wristy to me and a little less controlled. That said when things are going bad, I'll go out to the range and hit some using the interlock, but always end up going back to the overlap.
