Going to Savannah in late March and will be staying in the downtown area near Forsyth Park. Any recommendations on a good course to play?

Thanks in advance.

My hometown so I can recommend a few. I worked at Southbridge when it first opened 35 years ago and I love the layout, but have heard the conditioning recently leaves a lot to be desired. Bacon Park is the municipal course and is a Donald Ross design. Crosswinds out near the airport is likely the best option for public play in terms of the layout, conditions and value for money. They also offer a lighted par 3 course option as well (or did in the past).

Most of the public courses are ok, if you are willing to drive I highly recommend the following:

1. Sapelo Hammock- a beautiful marsh course off of exit 67 from I-95 South. It's my second favorite course in the area.

2. Sanctuary Golf Club in Camden County. You will NOT regret driving and playing this course. Designed by Fred Couples and Davis Love. This course is a hidden gem!
My absolute favorite course in the area, I have it at two just because from downtown Savannah it would probably take you around and hour and 15 minutes to get there.

Honestly, you could drive up to the Bluftton/Hilton Head area as well and throw a rock and hit a good course. Much more options than Savannah, sadly.

If you’re offering up Camden County, then you may as well throw in Brunswick/St Simons/Jekyll Island as well. I will agree HHI is better than Savannah for golf.

Fair enough

I think it's unfortunate but Savannah just doesn't have many public options. You offered the two biggest, Bacon Park and Crosswinds and then there is Henderson. Most everything else is private

Forgot about Henderson and it’s the closest to my mom’s house (no pics). Oops

Ford Plantaion is a relatively new underrated Dye track. It’s about halfway between 2 of his masterpieces in Harbortown and Sawgrass.

Great course in great shape.

I am definitely interested in taking you up on that, but it looks like Savannah to Wilmington is about 3 hours, so I'm not sure if I'll that kind of time

You may be looking at the wrong place. Wilmington Island is in Savannah. It’s between Whitemarsh Island and Tybee Island

I passed my PAT at the Sheraton years ago before it was redone and went private. Also saw the absolute funniest thing on a golf course I’ve ever seen in my life.

Was playing with 2 other pros and the F&B manager (who wanted to become a pro) out there. We were riding up to the 10th tee (it’s now #2) when the F&B guy heels his tee shot between his own legs. If I hadn’t seen it in person, I’d have never believed it. Almost couldn’t stop laughing enough to finish the round.

Hate to derail, but there’s a way to exchange emails, etc without putting it on a post?
