Any ideas on what the best local public course is up there? Got to kill 4 hours up there a week from tomorrow. Thanks guys.

Querbes? Or head to bossier and play stone bridge.

Querbes just redid their greens this summer- it’s a nice public course- looks like the weather’s finally cooling off a little next week, too.

Huntington isn't so bad. The holes are pretty long. It's been awhile since I played. Don't know if the Shreveport county club is still active. They had the hardest greens in Shreveport in my opinion. They had fans on most of the greens and putting on the greens is like putting on ice. Very fast. And they had one hole with a parascope at the tee box. Severe dog leg left. And the slope and layout is the reason for the parascope. And putting on the green is hell. Has a severe sloop, and fast as hell.

Stonebridge is a goat ranch now.

Huntington is in great shape, I play it and Querbes several times per week. Huntington is a good test, it has length and water and is almost 7000 from the tips. Querbes still has a few greens trying to fill in, it's a small course, it's 6100 from the tips and has no real hazards except OB off the tee, mostly right as that's where the houses are. There are 2 holes with a ditch in front and one of them has a sewage lift station beside it, you can get a good whiff of it most of the time. The only real defense it has is that they let the Bermuda turf grow thick, it's hard to find your ball if your off the fairway. Stonebridge is owned by the guy who owns Olde Oaks, he let Old Oaks turn into a goat ranch, it's awful, don't waste your time there. Stonebridge is in ok shape, there are a few greens that are rough and some of the fairwaya are dried out, to me it's not worth the $75 to play it on the weekend. There's a place in Greenwood not far from S'port, it's called Crooked Hollow. I haven't played it in a while but I heard it's in pretty good shape.
Since you will only have around 4 hours, in would pick Querbes, if it's just you, you can play it in under 3 hours if you play on a weekday.

It's been awhile since I've been able to play golf. Got a screwed up neck and can't grip a golf club anymore. Last time I player was at the course in Toledo ben. Can't remember the name. That day we basically had the whole house to ourselves. We used to play in a golf league at meadow lake. So after getting used to hitting of fair ways in a cow pasture, hitting off a pristine fairway was heaven.

Crooked Hollow is in pretty good shape right now and don't have to worry about a lot of OB. Northwood a couple of months ago was in great shape. That is probably my favorite course around here. Haven't played Stonebridge in a while but heard it's just in ok shape. Don't waste your time at Olde Oaks. Querbes is good but play during the day and not on the weekend...it gets crowded. Good to hear from previous poster about Huntington. Haven't played it in a wile

not really a bunch of public golf options unfortunately. depending on where you are in town, huntington or querbes are both enjoyable. querbes is in the middle of lots of other stuff (great food options, bars, etc.). huntinginton in west shreveport if you're out that way.
crooked hollow is a fun course but a decent ways out of town. stonebridge is also a good ways out and from what i hear is in crappy shape.

Definitely go to Stone Bridge or Huntington.
Querbes greens were renovated then they had to close it down like a month or two later because they were still crap. Just opened it back up and I keep getting emails from Querbes that they are hoping the grass grows back in soon. I wouldn't waste your money there.

I can tell you where not to go, Olde Oaks. They were starting to get better and then the director Reed left and its back to a goat ranch, probably the worst its ever been.

O wow, didn't realize that. That sucks, he was doing some good things out there for sure. Makes sense, I hadn't seen him post on Facebook about it lately and Olde Oaks Facebook page has slowed down in general.
Man that's disappointing, would love to see that course back in good shape. Reed couldn't even make it a year. Probably the owners, the husband and wife are assholes.

Reed left to take director role at Southern Trace. He had things going in the right direction at Olde Oaks. Unfortunately most of that progress is gone within a few months. Not sure if its labor, equipment, or budget issues but Olde Oaks can barely keep the grass cut. Its a shame because Olde Oaks is probably the best layout / course that is public - but needs a massive influx of money to get it back to where it was 20 years ago.

I've heard the same thing and they are tight wads who don't want to invest in the course, surprised Stonebridge hasn't completely fell apart yet.

Played there Sunday, and it looked like it had not been mowed in 2+ weeks, lost balls 3 feet off the fairway, hogs ruts everywhere, cypress #2 and #4 (4's closed) greens were non existent and unplayable, they Sodded #4 just to let it all die in the last few weeks. I wont be back for a while until I hear about some improvement, its not worth $50.

Good for him. I'd debate going out there if they got rid of the ridiculous initiation fee. Annnnnnnd just checked and their monthly rates went up too. 5k initiation and $834 a month

I'll stick to driving an hour to Texarkana Country Club playing a nicer course for 1/3 of the price.
