Teach me how to use slope on a range finder

I just got a new one, cheap but has the slope feature. It gives me actual yardage and then gives me slope adjusted yardage. Two questions
1. When getting slope adjusted should I shoot the green or the pin? Usually I shoot the top of the flag to get yardage to the hole, but then that changes the slope since I’m not shooting to the actual ground
2. How accurate are these? If it’s a 155 shot slope adjusted 165, do you actually play it to 165 or do you o something else?
Thanks guys

So shoot the flag and play the slope it says even though I’m shooting a target that is 8ft off the ground?

The range finder is programmed to assume that you are shooting it at a flag that is roughly 8 feet off the ground. So it factors that in to the slope calculation.
As far as playing it as if it's 165, that is correct if you are attacking the pin. You still need to make decisions for yourself such as if the pin is tucked on the front of the green near a bunker and you might decide to shoot more of a 175 right in to the middle of the green. But in general, you can assume that if you grab your club and hit a perfect 165 you should be sitting very near the pin.

You are also holding the rangefinder close to 6' off the ground.

That is the point of the adjustment

Sometimes I wonder how people make it through a day.

Sometimes I wonder. Had a shot this weekend that the range said was 140. Looked at my watch, yep, that fits, should be a 9i. Looked at the shite, visually, no way that's a 9i, that's definitely an 8. So hot an 8 and stuck it to within 7 feet.

Are you laying prone on the ground taking the range? Otherwise you’re shooting a target roughly the same point of reference off the turf as you standing up give or take a foot.

What most likely happened is you early extended an 8 which "sounded hot" spun too much balloned and was short for your 8 iron. Congrats though.

I hit my 9i 140 carry and my 8i about 155 carry. The yardage was telling me 140 but just looking at it the course was playing longer.
The exact opposite has happened at times too.
That's never happened to you?

Sure. I hit bad shots and flyers all the time.
