Carry, ball speed, etc?

We had a small group there and today and hit balls for a few hours.

I brought my LTDx LS driver in there to work on hitting it and testing the different weight positions.

Immediate difference between the TG trash driver and mine was a 15 mph faster ball speed, and I wasn't trying to swing any harder with it.

The clubs and balls at TG are trash. The clubs are meant to be treated poorly and swung by the general public. The balls are crap and have sensors inside and are built for limited flight. The % will depend on the golfer. No way to determine exactly how different they are.

And to be clear range balls are no good either. Too hard and often limited flight as well. Trackman has settings to counter give you adjusted number that take into account using range balls.

They’ve got to be 10-20% shorter. Last time I went to Top Golf, I couldn’t fly their 7 iron into the front of the 150 net and couldn’t reach the back net with their driver.

Top Golf is a total racket and I’m jealous of whoever thought the concept up. Marginal food, clubs abused as frick, and the balls are in worse condition than a 10 year old Top Flite you find in a ditch.

I play on a high end golf simulator on a weekly basis that very closely matches my gameplay on the golf course. The numbers I get reliably on the golf sim are very different from top golf. IMO, Top golf is entertainment, no more no less.

I will say though, golfsuites on siegen was much closer if you are looking to get distances etc. They use range balls, but must have the machine tuned up pretty good because my club distances were very similar to what I get on the high end golf sim with a premium ball.

If you want exact numbers on distance, spin, club speed etc, I'd recommend going to Schneider's golf mechanics on bluebonnet. He has 2 golf simulators that will give you exact numbers. You can also play actual golf on it vs top golf where you are trying to hit the big targets. The hourly price is similar to top golf, but if you sign up for the membership, the amount of practice/play time you get for the money is a crazy good value.

I have no clue, I have no desire to got to Top Golf and I live about 15 miles from one. Given that range balls in general are usually way off, I would say the data at Top Golf is almost worthless.

I went to Top golf once and was probably close to two clubs difference distance wise. I brought my clubs so it much be the balls.

I’m not sure why anyone thinks Top Golf is fun.

Because it's not meant to be competitive golfing. It's basically golf's version of recreational bowling. It's a social activity. If you go in there with that mindset, it can be fun. My biggest issue with top golf is it's too expensive for what it is.

Top Golf is plenty of fun. Don’t go there expecting a real golf experience. Think of it like playing darts in a bar or doing trivia.

It’s a game to play while hanging out with friends, it’s not supposed to be serious golf.

When I bring my kids, my youngest always brings her own... But she a kid and she's a lefty.. I've tossed my SW and 7i in there from time to time b/c I can pretty much hit every target with those two.. Bringing a full bag would be ridiculous...

The only time I’ve been was the Saturday prior to my scheduled open heart surgery.
It was raining cats and dogs. One of our group took it on himself to book 2 bays. We had a lot of fun. We practiced in one bay and played a game in the other. We each brought 3 or 4 clubs. It was fun to be together and we enjoyed the fellowship.

I’d say a group, club, church, or company outing would be fun there. Maybe a kids birthday party or a retirement party.

A lot of women were giving it a try the day we went. It’s a nice way for people to see if they have the itch to learn to play golf.

It's the balls. I'm sure the clubs aren't great, but the irons seem to be generic cavity back irons so I'm sure the distances aren't drastically different than a generic off the shelf iron set. Those balls from what I understand, have an RFID chip on the inside, are rock hard and are purposefully made for limited flight.

With that said, I still find it fun. My 10 year old son is kinda-sorta getting in to golf, but his favorite thing ever is to go to top golf and play the angry birds game where when you hit the ball it launches a bird on the screen and you have to knock down a house full of pigs just like the video game. We have spent 2 hours knocking down those damn pigs before. He loves it.

It’s somewhere between 15-20% shorter. And that’s with a new ball, not the ones that look like they’ve been hit by a mower. Back wall is 215 & it takes a good poke to hit it on the fly from the bottom level

I was consistently pushing everything right but carrying 220+ from the 2nd level into the back of the net.

Switched some of the head weights around since it was set up for a fade bias.

I'll head there next week and try it out.

Balls don’t travel as far. They have a cpu chip inside of them. Their clubs are shite.

I’ve been 1 time with my own clubs. I was hitting the net with a 3 hybrid. Could barely hit the net with their driver.
