Why are PGA tour ratings trending back up?

It’s been a consistent trend upwards pretty much at every tournament. Nothing has changed from last year so what’s causing the upward trend? Is this just a normal ebb and flow that golf ratings have always done and we incorrectly attributed to the LIV split last year?
Or are fans attention spans on the split so short they already forgot and are back to watching again?

Don’t think it has anything to do with LIV but I’m sure you do.
Compelling stories and a desire for audiences to choose compelling sports. There’s not much to compete with right now either. NBA, college hoops, NHL, etc. Not much interesting going on in those sports.

Because what you say down here, is no different than last year. There is no change below. The same things existed last year

It’s comparing the same weeks ratings, so what you said above is meaningless

Golf in general is on another massive upswing.
Everyone is starting to play it.

Was 2024 worse than 2023 too? Or is this an overall trend. If ratings did in fact dip, did you blame LIV for that too?

The split absolutely hurt the ratings for the PGA tour two years in a row. What it looks like happened is LIv failed to pickup those viewers, and those viewers are back to the tour
My question is why? Why are the fans back to the tour? I think it’s because the visceral reaction was “why do I want to watch pro golf now that it’s not as competitive”. As time has gone by people have gotten over it so to speak.

They’ve been marketing the shite out of it. TGL league, LIV/PGA controversy, dedicated YouTube channels, return of PGA videos games, Happy Gilmore 2, etc. Same shite was done right before Tiger’s arrival in 1997.
Tin Cup, Happy Gilmore and PGA Tour 96(1st version for PlayStation) all came out in the same year, they were setting the stage for Tiger’s arrival/a boom for interest in the sport
Edit: Rose Zhang is likely the female Tiger

Because when the split happened people felt the PGA Tour was weakened and watered down because of the loss of so many "stars". Since then, the PGAT has developed new stars and the level of competition is as good as ever. Scottie, Xander, etc. have filled the void and the fans have noticed and returned.

Yea I think your post summarizes the simplest explanation. LIV needs to show up in a big way in majors this year outside of Bryson.
It’s incredible how quickly a guy like cam smith has fallen off the radar, and he’s been replaced by min woo lee. PGA was very fortunate they had a bunch of young and marketable talent to fill the void.

I don’t know if this is actually a contributing factor or not, but I believe that LIV not getting any big signing from the PGA Tour this offseason helped tremendously.
I think TGL probably helped a little bit as well and then with certain tournaments you’ve had a lot of the players you would want to have in contention.

I think for the Houston Open. A combo of Scottie and Rory plus a lackluster NCAA tournament helped.

There were a lot of guys in contention

Most of the tourneys this year came down to the wire with several people in contention, makes for good viewing. While there are a bunch of "no names" in the hunt, these kids are good and future stars.

Because LIV is a garbage product with no exposure. Its that simple.

What are the numbers for the other tournaments you say are up versus last year? I don't doubt they're up, but I'll bet that Houston open viewership for final round was up big time because of Min Woo alone. I like the guy and I tuned in to see him close it out, I was rooting for him at players but he blew it, wanted to see him get it done here. I think other people were in the same boat.

6/7 tournaments ratings are up from last year. Congrats on coming in after the thread was made where it was 6 straight weeks
