Why do spectators crowd around the ball when it’s hit in the rough etc.

I’ve attended a few tournaments in Dallas or New Orleans and I’ve never understood the rush to crowd around the golf ball.

I’ve never gotten it either. I get a kid, but seeing a 40 year old fat arse waddle his feet as fast as he can just to be asked to step away and get roped off.

Yes I understand a kid getting excited but a fat arse 40 year old waddling to a ball is hilarious

These “patrons” are probably all plus 3 handicap or better. They are all golf historians.

How often do you get the opportunity to watch one of the best golfers in the world hit a recovery shot that none of us could likely ever make from 5 feet away?

shite all I know is if my local course had the number of spectators, cameras, backpacks, etc on the sides of the fairways that the Master’s does I bet I’d get enough good kicks to shave a stroke off my game.
