Going to give intermittent fasting a try with an 8 hour eating window. Work/family schedule means I would need to eat at 10:30am and then stop at 6:30pm.

My lunch is scheduled for 11:45am. Considering I wake up at 5 and workout/run for 45 minutes each morning, I’d rather not wait until 11:45 to eat.

So would a scoop of protein powder and water be a good way to eat a light snack before a full lunch an hour later?

Seems like an easy answer but I thought I’d ask before assuming.

I do IF with Isagenix and always break with a protein shake. Currently on day 2 of a 2 day fast. Isagenix is nice because you have options on the fast...you can have bone broth or some chocolate wafers if you feel you need sugar

Yes protein is what you want when you’re breaking the fast. You can follow it up shortly afterwards (1-3 hrs) with carbs and fats, but most agree protein is the best macro to intake first.

So another question:

I was late getting out the door and didn’t pack the protein. I have half a banana. Will the sugar be too much after not eating 16 hours? I could just wait for my protein-heavy lunch at 11:45 or eat the banana at 10:30.

You'll be alright either way. I'd personally get more satisfaction out of delaying the gratification and waiting for the protein packed meal as it's much more satiating.

Might be overthinking it a little.

At 16 hours you'll be fine with anything you eat. I don't think it's an issue until you're talking about a couple of days fasting.

It actually does make a difference...

Your body responds very differently when it gets a spike in glucose first thing vs protein/fat-rich meals. Sugar will spike insulin to a much higher degree than protein/fat and this is something you want to avoid for a myriad of reasons.

So yesterday I had the banana and was fine but definitely noticed more hunger pangs going into my first meal.

Today I had a scoop of protein powder and water and it was more satiating.

I know: very small sample sizes here, but I’m going to go with the protein shake.

Feeling great so far. Been having a large salad with a large protein serving for lunch each day.

Are electrolyte supplements healthy during fasting or not good?

I have some Chike protein for the AM: Caffeine & Protein.

Both the regular and Peanut Butter are great.

Not sure on the protein but it's all about how much you eat. A salad or small plate is how big any meal should be.
