Buying used exercise equipment

I have the potential to get an older elliptical.
Asking around 300. This is a commercial level one that you'd find in a gym. I think these things new are >$2000/ each.
But it is like 15 years old.
Of course the pics make it look OK. Obviously I'd need to do a closer inspection.
My question is would you be hesitant to buy good condition used exercise equipment for a good price?

Something with moving parts like that I wouldn’t spend a ton on. I’ve bought and sold weights before, and other things, but I wouldn’t expect it to run forever. But I wouldn’t hesitate if the price is right. Does it have any electronics on it? We bought an elliptical in college that was really basic. Resistance was a knob you’d click up or down to the next level. The only electrical was a screen with a timer and a HR monitor. Nothing really necessary to use it. Half the time I never even turned the screen on. I’d be more wary if it was one of those with programmed workouts and resistance was controlled electronically.

Life fitness machines have a button sequence you can hit during power on to see how many hours the system has been used'

I would search the brand and model to make sure you can find parts for it easily. My wife was adamant about getting a treadmill to take up space in our home gym. I found a good commercial one. Everything looked good when I went to check it out. Got home and moved it into the garage and the belt broke in half. I’m not sure if the guy glued it back together before we looked at it or if I tore it when I was moving it. But it was a common model so finding a new one was fairly easy.

I've had good luck with used equipment. Recently bought the wife a stairmaster that was a near commercial model. Did test it out before buying. I checked the mechanicals and everything looked good. I gave $75 for it, rebuilt units like it go for $3k. Parts are available and you can hang a lot of clothes from it so win-win.

I'd love to find a used commercial chest fly/rear delt machine.

Back in the day Craigslist was always good. Facebook marketplace usually has things listed these days. You can get 1 inch dumbbell plates pretty cheap on amazon new though. 2 inch plates are what’s so crazy right now. I don’t really need the thin fancy expensive Olympic plates. Just weights to put on dumbbell handles and I slowly built up my collection when stuff went on sale at Amazon.
