Just saw they are opening a Crunch Fitness in Mandeville. Seems to be like a Planet Fitness type place.

Anyone been to one?

It's a globogym kinda place. The business model is like PF but it doesn't suck so much. It's got anything you could need to get great workouts of any kind in in, there's no lunk alarm, there are olympic platforms, benches, etc.

There are different levels. I can’t remember everything that the upper levels get you but I know if I you want to do Zumba, yoga, Pilates, spin class, group HIT classes and such you have to be on one of the higher levels.

Higher levels may also allow you to access multiple locations but I can’t remember for sure.

I’d say it’s a step above planet fitness having tried both. Crunch has regular squat racks and bench press (I know PF doesn’t for liability reasons) if that matters to you (they also have a few smith machines).

Except it has everything. Crunch is a good gym to go to.

Ours here in Fort Lauderdale is horrible. One thing lacking is a really nice gym. I’ve been to my brothers One Life in Crabapple (Alpharetta) and it’s so nice. Tons of amenities, classes, smoothie bar.

If all you're looking for is a good workout, you really can't beat it for the price. Generally have fairly nice equipment, variety of different machines, all you need for free weights and barbells, huge spaces, even up to 120 lb dumbbells.

They lack in amenities usually (no saunas, hot tubs, pools, child care, etc) but that's expected for the cheap rates.

Would recommend.

I'm getting a membership to one that's a mile away from my house. Going to try it.

If it's close to the style of the BR one it's a nicer version of Planet Fitness for semi-serious weight lifters. Dry sauna, showers, a spin studio and a large room for stuff like Zumba.

$10/month gets you what you'll get at any gym. I have the $30/month so i can drop off Baby BTB to the daycare, do classes (unlimited) and use any gym in the country.

For real??

Damn, wish it wasn't so far from me.

Might have to check it out anyway. Childcare is a massive help, especially in summer.

I will say that the cheap rate attracts some interesting characters. Yesterday I saw a dude at Crunch lifting in thick soled doc martens. Like why?

Anyway, I plan to keep going as I am too cheap for Equinox.

I signed up over the weekend, as it's a mile from my house.

It has everything I wanted over Planet Fitness. It can be stupid full at times, but that seems to be all gyms now. Plenty of cool cardio stuff at mine, also saunas.

One of the regulars at Crunch in Hammond Aire had an ankle monitoring bracelet for about a month when I first started there.

One of their female trainers on staff is a former Twin Peaks girl (Siegen).

multiple sets of blue collar guys who train during lunch hour in their blue work shirts (hvac guys, etc)

Countless gear head gym bros.

Groups of high schoolers- broccoli headed boys and some girls. They group up and occupy machines for too long for selfies.

Lots of land whales who wear skinny revealing clothes with way too much skin showing.

A few elderly folks that look like theyre knocking on death’s door.

Overall its a great place to work out, we like it.

They vary in quality. There is one in Corpus that took over an old Gold's that shut down and is a pretty solid gym

Then they have some smaller ones that look more like a planet fitness

Mine is really only bad at like 5pm to 8 pm Monday- Thursday. Other than that it tends to be pretty open.

I work varying hours so sometimes I get to enjoy it fairly empty.

That’s crazy that they have daycare at a gym

Once you get married you don’t have to go to the gym anymore
