Gary Brecka and genetic methylation a scam?

Listed to the Joe Rogan podcast with Gary Brecka and does a very good job presenting the information. Question is whether all this stuff is legit and can truly improve your life. I mean if it is, $600 bucks to feel and function significantly better isn't a crazy price. Thoughts?

Why not spend $25 on a bottle of methylated folate and see if that makes you feel better? Is it does, avoid enriched flour so your body doesn’t get saturated with folic acid? Cheaper than $600. Don’t think it’s a scam but they’re are better ways to figure out the same thing.

I am more interested in the gene and claims regarding Homocysteine than the folic acid stuff.

A bottle of TMG is cheap and pretty safe. Take it for a few months and track your BP.

I thought that was a very interesting podcast as well. I’m interested if I have the MFer gene.
I thought he said it will only been a few people that do have that gene and can’t process folic acid?

I listened to the podcast too and looked into it.
An independent lab testing company like Any Lab Test Now, etc., will cost around $250 for the test.
I ended up ordering methylated folate droppers on Amazon. I haven't noticed a difference. I'll finish up the bottle and see how I feel, and how I feel when I stop.
I kind of get a snake oil salesman vibe from Gary. He's supposed to come back on Rogan to go over Joe's results. We'll see. I'm not sold on the grounding mat, but there seems to be some science to the red light therapy.

He gives me a creepy type vibe. He’s been getting some results with high profile clients. Some of these guys are so unhealthy to begin with that any change in lifestyle would produce dramatic results. I’m sure half the stuff he’s peddling doesn’t make a difference but cleaning up diet is the key.

He goes off getting Dana White in shape and then mentions the thousands of dollars a month in products White is using. Also he has a 125k red light bed in his house
Definitely not for a middle class guy like me. Even his dna test kit is $1300

I started taking a complex B vitamin after this podcast based off his recommendation. I havent noticed that much of a difference besides my pee turning highlighter yellow. Like disturbingly bright yellow.

I only take those when I know I’m going to have a weekend where more than normal drinking will be taking place. I start a couple days before and go a couple days after. I do feel like it helps with a hangover.
To someone else’s point, the first thing he does is cleans up someone’s diet (Dana White included). Well of course that’s going to have dramatic results!!

I’ll chime in here since I like you all listened to this podcast and was intrigued.
I had been told a while back by a doctor that I had one of the methylation mutations. She told me to get a methyl b12 supplement and sent me on my way and I kind of forgot about it and didn’t always take it.
After listening to the podcast I remembered this and went down the rabbit hole (ex Chris masterJohn) and am currently waiting on results for a more comprehensive panel as some of the symptoms of these other mutations resonated with things I have experienced.
I decided to supplement as if I have mutations and added methyl b12, P5P (active b6) TMG, SAMe, DIM, etc to my supplement stack. My latest labs came back incredible- I (29M) have always hovered in the 500 range for T and came back with 846 for example. Most other labs came back great. My energy was through the roof, and so on.
Eventually it became too much and I was overpowering my system with the supplements- I discovered niacinamide (b3) can mop up the excess methyl groups and help bring you back down to earth so to speak and that helped a lot.
Overall my thoughts and advice are that if you do have one or more of the mutations, the supplements can change your life for the better. For the record I bought all the supplements separate as I have never found multivitamins to be affective.
However, the methylation system is delicate and can get out of balance if you aren’t careful and can cause extremely uncomfortable issues (look up under and over methylation symptoms). Methylation also affects how your body processes histamine (look up histadelia and Histapenia) just as a warning to those who start to supplement.
I think the testing is worth the cost to check and see if you have these issues, and I would do that first and then supplement after based on what your results are. I would also recommend working with a healthcare practitioner that understands these issues so that they can guide you and can better recognize how the supplements may be affecting you if experience symptoms that are not positive, instead of just experimenting like I did and getting things a little out of balance.
Good luck!

I recently visited a functional medicine practitioner and she had me do an obnoxious amount of blood work. It had to total more than a pint. But, she left the methylation test off of the list. I asked why and she stated that that test isn't a first step test. First, we need to see what I'm deficient in, and if those tests point to a methylation issue, then she will order it. Turns out I don't have a methylation issue based on the results of my other tests.
She's very aware of Huberman, Peter Attia, etc.. and some of the things she was explaining to me were things I've heard them explain. It was interesting to see her put into practice all the words you hear on a podcast, and see how they work together. I highly recommend finding a functional medicine or holistic health practitioner in your area and going through the whole process.
