I want to take advantage of the winter

Should you limit it to once per day?

Or can you go twice a day?

Is there any risk/benefit To twice a day?

UPDATE: Been doing at 645am even when it is in the 20s because the water is still staying @ 40 degrees due to anti freezing mech on pool. Come home at 545 and do it again.

Forty degrees is waaaay different than 45 and much worse than 50. but 50 is still cold.

I will say that buying a thermometer has made it harder. Because when I see 40 i start to psych myself out some. I still hop in, it still feels great.

You’ll get a bunch of people say they are bad for you. They aren’t, but they are right that they stunt inflammation which causes muscle growth so you shouldn’t plunge within 4-6 hours of training (minimum) unless the goal is to stunt that inflammation and therefor soreness.

Thanks!

Once in the first two thirds of a day. It can amp you up, and warm is better for getting to sleep.

By getting in cold water you increase your core body temp

You're right, but you want to lower your core temp for sleep, and to do that you raise the temperature of your extremities. The cold bath will raise your core temp by cooling your extremities. I worded it poorly. It's kind of arse backwards from what you'd think.

Here's the mindblower: a sauna not long before bedtime kickstarts the process of cooling the body down for sleep!

Hop in there first thing in the AM. Good to go.

The positives (for most people, including myself) far outweigh whatever negatives people make up because they are scared of the cold water.

They're only bad if you're lifting and trying to increase mass. I did a cold plunge after every cross country workout because I would be getting in at least 11 miles of running in the morning and would have to do some other type of workout 6 hours later. It felt good to start the day with a run and ice bath.

For me, I like it earlier in the day. Gives me energy and mental clarity. It wakes me up too much to do it near bedtime.
