Or are they all just alike?

Most yoga mats are trash and 90% of them are slippery when wet even if they say they are not.
In my experience the thicker the mat the more likely you are to slip

I went to my first yoga class about 6 weeks ago. Bought a new mat at Academy and unrolled it for the first time in the class.
Had no idea the mat said "I do it for the pizza!!" in big pink letters until

Aurorae mats are really good. I’ve used them for the last 4 years with no complaints. Get it on Amazon Amazon.com

Lululemon
I got this mat for Christmas, it is perfect for sweaty hand/foot issues for yoga. One side is super sticky, other side is standard. Highly recommended.

Manduka makes great mats. They are a little pricey, but are good quality and will last forever. If you find a mat you like and are still sliding a bit, try using a non-slip yoga towel on top of the mat.

Was given a lululemon as a gift, would likely have never purchased one, they’re worth every penny. Mine is now 7 years old, perfectly sticky.

I went with the lululemon one linked above after doing research and trying the manduka grp and I’m happy with it. Surprising for lululemon it’s actually cheaper than most others and the right size and weight. Grp is huge and heavy and no better. You don’t want the manduka pro, it’s slippery and has to be broken in. Jade harmony seems to get universally positive reviews. Of course if you still slip then a yoga towel does the trick with little fuss
