Will plant 3-4 in a row on the side of the house.
What are the advantages in each size?
Price is $50 and $109.

15 gal advantage - price
30 gal advantage - size
Not to sound like a smartass, but that's pretty much it.

30g will look like an actual tree. I would t go with a 15g. That’s like 2-3 years of growth to catch up to a 30g. Maybe more.

And yeah, obviously I know that but what about in reference to planting them?
Any risk of transplant shock going with the 30 gal?
Will the 15 gallon be the same size as the 30 gallon in a year?
Stuff like that

There’s going to be more noticeable shock with a 30g because it’s a bigger plant.
I wouldn’t worry that much. Always go
Bigger if you can. A 15g will not
Be anywhere Near a 30g in a year

You typically don't have to worry about transplant shock with container stock. What I would be on the look out for is circling roots when you take the tree out of the container. Circling roots can continue growing in a circle and wrap themselves around the tree, basically strangling itself over time.

Depends on if it is container grown or containerized. In other words, always grown in the container or dug from ground at some point and put in the container.

Well I don’t feel like if I have a clear decision
Where’s the best place to get one of these?

Also consider how you will move a 30 gal tree. It won’t be by hand.

The older I get, the bigger tree I buy.

So if I go with 30 gallon I could do it in a few hours? Is it worth double the price I wonder?
Or just go with the more manageable and let them grow over a couple of years.

A grown man in half arse shape can move a 30 gallon around and easily plant by himself.

There should be zero problem planting a 30 gallon tree

I just picked up a very nice 15 gallon from Lowe’s for $25. They have them 1/2 price now

"Is it worth double the price I wonder?"
And only you can make that determination.

Redbuds are slow growing.
Where do you plan on planting it? I think they grow best along an edge of the woods

That’s what I thought, but a guy I know who’s very credible seems to think the trees could not take and end up dying.

It's always possible that a tree (of any size) won't root, but they wouldn't sell trees that size if they couldn't be replanted. Make sure to check the return policy of where ever you buy the tree. The nursery we buy from offers a lifetime warranty on all trees...if it doesn't take, you bring it back to the nursery and they do a like for like exchange. The key is to prep the transplant area properly, and to nurture the tree while it is trying to root. The nursery can give you detailed instructions for prep, install and care specific to your area.

Look at the caliper size of the tree. Ive seen some 30s not worth the money.

Also buy some root stimulator. It's cheap and it works well.
