I want to add a patio extension to my back patio. The slab is already there, so no cement work is necessary. The size will be roughly 14X 12 and a lean-to style with electricity. Based on the pics it will be roughly the size of the brick wall and come out to the first post in the other pic. I know tying it to my roof is more expensive, but it also looks the best. Are there other alternatives to tying it to the roof that looks good? What should I expect for something like this? Just a ballpark idea. Thanks.

I’ve seen this used before in situations like yours. Supposed to be “hurricane rated,” whatever that means.

Get an aluminum awning tied into your fascia

I suggest definitely tying into existing roof. All the strength and support is a plus in regards to hurrricanes. Just finished a replacement patio cover with LAS.

I am being told that I may need to bust up concrete to make footings for the post. That may be a deal breaker for me.

Tieing into the fascia gonna make the sloped end low.

Before I did anything I’d speak with your insurance company. Over here in Alabama I’ve got what you call a Fortified Gold home. It has something to do with hurricane standards on the roof. A lot of my neighbors found out the hard way after Hurricane Sally that the home additions did not make code and got stung bad. Point is even if you don’t have those kind of standards make sure whatever you do an insurance company is okay with it because those folks will always try to screw you over.

You realize you're doxing yourself with that photo right? Take out the GPS info.

For some reason I feel like you’re in the Lafayette area if I recall right. If so, call the Patio Center. They’ll give you options and do a great job.

We install patio covers all the time, this can be avoided. Unless you'd be fine settling for a pergola, I'd 100% tie into your roof/shingles. That's also not hard to do at all for someone who knows what they're doing.

I don't want some cheap looking metal thing. Do they nice stuff?

I have almost the exact same setup and have flirted with the idea of doing this as well. You mind updating with quotes and what you end up going with?

Sure, but it might be while before I actually pull the trigger.

If you need a temporary solution, I have had success with a shade sail. Although I did have to sink one post on the corner of the extra slab.
