We have a spare bedroom we want to turn into play/TV room. It currently has a queen bed we use for up to two guests, sometimes adults, a few times of year.

I'm not looking for dorm room futon, but not a $4000 main living room sleeper either. The comfort as a sofa is not critical as it will usually just be kids. But I would like some comfort as a bed even if a topper or different mattress is needed. Sometimes we host family guests for up to 7 days at a time.

Anyone have sleeper sofa recommendations? What does the $1000-$1500 range get me?

What does it take to get a decent one?

I need to weigh my budget when it'd only be used maybe 10-14 nights a year.

Had similar issue. Went to rooms to go spent $1100. It’s fairly comfortable but I just laid on it. The Cindy Crawford collection. Feels good as a couch too. I got the gel mattress.

It’s rooms to go so I’m not expecting much but it should get the job done.

We had one from Ashley that we just got rid of and wanted a sleeper sofa for similar reasons. We paid around $700 but I saw where the same is now around $1200 new. It was fine enough for that purpose, the mattress was memory foam and was sufficient enough.

You probably want a Jax. The bed will be very low (and the couch, too), but it is comfortable for its purpose, if you don’t mind a “mattress on the floor” look.

For comfort, though, wall beds kick arse. They do have wall beds built into sofas, but you’re looking at $2500-3500 (though you’re getting a functional sofa and a regular mattress that’s not on the ground). They have them both horizontal and vertically oriented. They have desks, too, but it doesn’t sound like that’s an alternative for the room, and they’re still usually $2k starting or so. But a wall bed with a lightweight/cheap (or used!) sofa that is easy to shove out of the way (if there is room for it) would be another pretty decent alternative for this scenario

ETA- wall bed doesn’t include mattress, but with a queen bed already there, I’m making the assumption you’ll keep that mattress. Otherwise when you find a cheap couch and a cheap mattress, it’s going to be up over what you’re wanting to spend, too.

Save yourself the headache and get a nice sofa, and get a queen size air mattress on amazon… w/ the raised platform.

I understand it’s not the answer to your question, but just a thought.

Was in the market for the same and had the sales guy pull out the sleeper on one at rooms to go. The bed barely fit past the end of my feet and I’m 5’3”. Would not work for most. Also checked at ikea and their couch bed is full length and same size as a regular queen bed. The couch itself was also very comfortable.
