Im in the BR area, 17 year old shingles with the black streaks/algae growth, Looking into this soft wash idea and asking anyone to share their experiences, company, cost? thanks.

Had my entire house, driveway and roof washed by Green Tiger Softwash about 2 years ago. The did a good job for a reasonable price. All the black algea streaks on the roof were gone and it looked like new again. I would recommend.

after 2 years, have the streakes started to reappear?
could you ballpark "reasonable price" ?

Yep. Did it within the last year and the roof looks brand new. If you look around online you will see a variety of home mixes and concentrations and all that and I just decided to go with what I found to be the common/average ingredients and ratios.
3 gallon backpack sprayer:
1.5 gallon liquid chlorine/pool shock
1.5 gallon water
Large squirt of blue dawn
Spray the roof area and let sit for 30ish minutes then spray it down with a water hose.
Few other notes
-Do not pressure wash
-When washing with water spray from the bottom of the roof to the top of the roof.
-Wherever your runoff will be, if you want the bushes/plants to live spray them down with water before hand and cover with visquine/tarp.
-Depending on roof area/amount of algea/etc it will take a good bit of batches to do the entire thing.
-Do not do when it is 95 degrees and the sun is out. You will fry as well as the mix will dry up before it can be fully effective. Try for a cloudy day and may be good to wait until it cools down some
-Depending on how much junk you have on the shingles you may have to perform the entire process twice. Either that or will have to wait a few months for the full results to show from one application.
Thats the residential DIY route. Can always hire a company to do it but have no idea their cost (neighbor said she paid $1,000). Your cost will be about $50-$100. and a days work.

No streaks or stains on the roof yet. Don't remember the exact cost, but I want to say it was about $1,200 for the entire house, roof, driveway, courtyard, walkways, patios, etc.

I’ve never heard the term ‘soft wash’ ever in life except for on here. Not sure if some pressure washing Louisiana baw coined that term to Scam you guys out of money or what? I’m not saying it doesn’t make sense to wash your house, but it’s not that hard and takes minimal equipment. Paying more than $50/ hour for that type of thing is absurd to me and you can do a lot of pressure washing in 8 hours.
ETA: some baw walked down doctor’s row door to door and no one wanted pressure washing so he came up with ‘but have you had the soft wash’?

you cannot pressure wash roof shingles. it would remove all the roof shingle granules, void any warranty, and damage functionality of the roof.

----
It's a relatively new term, but a common one.
Home Depot has a couple of products which are like Spray and Walk Away and one made by 30 Second Cleaner people.

anything you do to a shingle creates wear and shortens its life, but doing it may make it look better.
decide whats most important to you, not having leaks and getting the most years out of your roof, or making it look better
if you want to do anything then spray down the entire roof with 50/50 mix of bleach and soapy water then let that do its thing to kill the mildew all on its own and dont ever touch it.

17 years in, that algae may be what's holding granules on in some areas. I believe that they use a diluted copper sulfate based product for soft washing.

I know that, but the companies or guys that soft wash a roof are usually pressure washers.
My point is it’s like getting a car washed for $1000 when you can take it somewhere to get a detail for $200. It’s a ripoff marketing scam that’s not very much work.
There’s a guy that paid $1200 above, same thing. People will say ‘it’s the cost of business”, no it’s not. I have a business and know the costs. Pressure washing is easy and cheap, I understand paying someone else to do it for you as your time is worth something. But I’m saying don’t get ripped off.
ETA: I don’t understand the downvotes but downvote away. I’m just trying to save people money. Pressure washing is like mowing a yard, don’t get ripped off just because you don’t want to do it yourself.

There is an episode of This Old House on YouTube that discusses cleaning your shingles. I had never heard of such a thing.
