Anyone have a purpose built lap pool?

Considering putting in a 25 yard single lane lap pool with starting block. We have three children that are competitive swimming at a decently high level and are toying around with the idea of having an 8’x75’ lap pool installed. If any of you have something similar what do you think estimated costs would be? Can this be done for less than $70,000?
Not wanting to drop $100k on something like this but if we could get it done in the 70-75k range I may pull the trigger. Will start getting prices soon from local builders but wanted to bounce this here as well before I get too carried away.

I looked into the swim spas but to get the power level needed for competition times I would need the Michael Phelps signature and those are upper $50’s before you do concrete base, electrical and deck not to mention they seem disposable compared to an in ground. I haven’t looked too hard at in ground endless pool options but seems the price would be similar to a full lane and while good for endurance it wouldn’t allow for diving from blocks and working on underwater streamline and flip turns.

Oh they are but our local country club pool isn’t heated and the nearest year round clubs are well over 30 min away it’s more about convenience. 8’ is wider than a swim lane.

This all day long. I would love a 25m lap pool, but it's just too damn expensive. It will be at least 100k

Are they going to swim laps 1 at a time? If you are doing it for them to be able to train year-round, may make sense to go a little wider for the days they all want to swim around the same time.
Also, I have never built a pool, but I can't imagine the cost for a 15'x75' would be much more than a 8'x75'; especially if you are going with a basic set-up. Would also help with functionality after they are done with swimming or are out of the house.

quote:Highly doubt it. Parents put in a pool at their house. Rectangular pool around 14' x 30' thats only about 5' at the deep end. Nothing particularly fancy and only a small amount of concrete deck area poured to connect to their existing patio slab, then sprayed it all with cool deck. They paid about $60k for that 2 years ago.
Can this be done for less than $70,000?
An 8 x 75 pool would be almost 50% bigger than that by area and would have about double the perimeter length. Thats a whole lot more rebar work and gunite to be sprayed.
Also keep in mind potential resale down the road. I know I wouldn't want to buy a house with a lap pool. If I had a backyard pool, it would be for leisure time with friends and family. I can't think of many backyard activities less leisurely than trying to cool off in your pool while trying to keep tabs on young kids that insist on swimming on the opposite end of a 75' long pool

You are going to have to heat and cool it to get anywhere near any use out of it for training. And you will have to cool the shite out of it in the summer to do any long work.
Additionally, although pools are not the drain on resell they were just a few years ago, I cant imagine anyone would want that in their backyard.
Lastly, kids change interests as quick as can be. I have a very serious baseball player, I wont even put up a hitting tunnel for him, he can get his arse up the the park or indoor facility if he wants to work, I would advise the same for the pool If they want it, they will go to the pool If they dont, there is no way a pool in the back yard will change that.

If you really are insistent on doing this, I'd go 2 lanes wide, but maybe only 15 yards long. Really work on starts, turns, and speed stuff. I've never liked the wake in single wide pools, even with gutters and lane ropes. The waves are bouncing off both side walls down low, regardless of the top going into the gutter. And also 2 lanes so they can race

Also, regardless of where you end up in your decision, don't forget backstroke flags

You laugh already thought of those. This was a day drinking on the back porch pipe dream session. Also swim coach is a personal friend so we would get some use with the team most likely. Just a little tired of our shitty pool options locally. We have the room for it and if I could get it done on a reasonable budget it may happen. Hell if I knew enough year round intrest could be had I would entertain doing a full blown six lane pool just not sure I could pull enough interest to turn a profit.
Anything bigger than a lane or two would need to pay itself back

Do it.
I’ve been to a few houses with lap pools and they get more use than people expect.

It's not a big deal for competitive swimmers.

They would circle swim, meaning you stay to the right. They are already doing this with whatever team they are swimming with and circle swimming is standard at even collegiate level swim practices.

If you decide with something like Endless Pools let me know, my father-in-law is the installer for the south region. Installs pools in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi. He can install in ground if you would like. He’s the electrician and contractor as well. Can build a pergola or home addition for the pool as well.

It's not preferred - that's for damn sure.
