The wife and I just closed on a piece of land. We are starting to plan to build our forever home. Looking for recommendations for architects around Baton Rouge. TIA

Are you looking to build something unique/special or just need a home designer or draftsman?

Home designer I guess. We just don’t want some cookie cutter plans. Something that works well for us to be able to entertain. We plan to live there for 20 plus years, so we want it to be exactly what we want.

I know there is one here that can help and that reads/comments here pretty often. Too bad we can't DM. Maybe he shows up.

You know, the stupidest guy in my fraternity became an architect after he flunked out of dental school.

Working with Shawn at Onsite Design. Not just a plan drawer, a true designer and architect. Not cheap. our 4000/5900 plans were $20k.

Canals, mostly
OP should look at some tutorials to make some drafts of his own. It’s not hard if you’re even just a little artistic. Take them to the architect or draftsman to complete and correct them, then sign off on them when they’ve got it all figured out and everyone is happy. My sister and BIL did it that way. Looked like fun working on plans in their spare time.

Just be careful in using just anyone to save money
An good architect can be worth his money
Also, we looked at architect’s plans online and almost chose one of those to build before we settled on a house that was for sale
But, let me add that this house I’m in was designed by an architect whereas my previous house was done by a builder
It’s hard for me to put a finger on it, but I can just tell the difference

Kern architects here in br does a good job

Kern will be designing my next home.
We haven't started plans yet, but we have been discussing styles and budgets and expectations. He has a pretty strong design build background, He knows what things actually cost to build and won't get caught up in designing something out of your budget.
I would give them a call.

I second this. He does really nice work.

Mark is a good guy and does good work. Unless things have changed, he's usually pretty backed up. With that said, be wary of anyone that can start immediately. Designers are pretty busy right now and anyone worth a shite should have a little wait.
