I've already got PVC ran throughout my yard to several hose bibs, but I'd like to add on to a few farther spots. What's the best material to use, PVC, Pex, flexible poly piping? Something I don't know about?

If that has worked, why change now? PVC is readily available should you ever need to fix/ repair.

I added a hose bib in the garden using PEX and it was pretty easy. It allowed me to make a continuous run without having to make a bunch of connecting joints along the way.

Pex is by far the easiest. PVC is fine. Don't skull cramp about this.

I dug it by hand with trenching spade. It’s about 8” deep if I remember correctly.

That's a good point. The original owners ran all the PVC, I just wanted to see if there was a better method.

In a mature landscape where straight runs may be hard to find Pex may be ideal. You can even weave it through tree roots if you have too. Flexible poly's ribbed structure will be much weaker that Pex's fiber-reinforced design.

In any short sections where somebody might do some digging, sleve it through 2" pipe to serve as a shield.
