A buddy says he keeps this in a sprayer and sprays ants nests when he sees them. He said it kills them. Anyone ever used it? Where can I purchase in a store

I saw some at Stine. Besides ants, is it a good killer and deterrent for roaches?

Yeah, I haven’t found anything it wouldn’t kill yet. Cool thing is, you can also spray it inside of your house as well. It is sold under the Home Defense brand (pre-mixed) at walmart. If you want concentrate (which is what I did) go to tractor supply and get the generic.

https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/compare-n-save-indoor-outdoor-insect-control-79-bifenthrin-concentrate-117081399--1

This is the same product under a different name sold at Tractor Supply. The active ingredient is 7.9% bifenthrin. Mix 1 oz to 1 gallon of water and let em have it.

My local Ace hardware has the bifen brand sold there. All the same stuff if it's 7.9%.

I use concentrate. 1 oz to 1 gallon kills em dead. There won’t be one ant a day later.

I use the granules around the perimeter of my house. 2 or 3 bands around the house from a bag. I have nothing but good to say.

I’ve been using Talstar for years. Has anyone used the granules in the yard? Does that last longer? Would that be better for ants and army worms?

It’s actually pretty broad spectrum. I diy my pest control and use Bifen I/T indoors and outdoors. Yes, it’s good at taking out ants, too.

After a year or so, I rotate it with Demon WP to prevent resistance.

Talstar granules have a longer residual than the liquid but the liquid is instant.

Bifen works great on ant mounds and will wipe them out. Although it takes more than a little squirt so if you have a ton you’ll go thru a bit.

To the other poster, the granules work great. The residual is longer but is affected by the amount of rain you receive. You will get a few months for sure.

Yes. I also use it around and inside my house. I usually rotate my chemicals that I use.

Do I need to look for something with more than 7.9% bifen or is that sufficient?

I use both because I want knockout and residual. You really can't beat this site: domyown.com

Lately, as far as general insecticide for outdoor perimeter, I've switched to Suspend PolyZone. It's supposed to have the best residual for places like the Gulf South where it rains a lot.

I spray outdoor perimeter and indoor baseboards, windows, etc and haven't seen a spider, roach, ant, etc in my house in a long time.

I'm not a bug man by trade so just wanted to throw that disclaimer out there first....lol. Based on my research, 7.9% is what the professionals use. There is a 25% version that is oil based that is used for foundation treatments for termites, etc. I think 7.9% is fine for home use and killing ants and their mounds. It's water based and you may have to reapply it more often if it rains alot.

Some of the products you buy at Lowes/HD, etc. may contain bifenthrin but look at the percentage and it is usually way less than 7.9%.

As others have said, Suspend is a good product, but in my opinion, and take it for what it's worth, Bifenthrin 7.9% is the most cost effective option. I usually keep bifenthrin for outdoor, permimeter spraying and ant mounds, etc. and spray Suspend or Demand inside. I spray inside my house every 3 mos, and outside maybe a little more often than that in the summer months. Just my 2 cents. I'm open to any suggestions from more experienced people, but I rarely ever see any bugs in the house.

Edit: Just as an aside, i think Talstar (brand name) was the original for this product and Bifen and other generics came later. They all contain the same active ingredient of 7.9%. I just buy the cheapest one I can find and that generic stuff from Tractor Supply works fine.

If you want to read up on it, there is a lot of good info on the product and you can purchase it online here. This is a good website to order all sorts of pest control products from.

Bifen is great, but if you do not want to see ants for at least 6 months up to a year, get a bottle of termidor and spray the perimeter of your property and house with it. I guarantee you will not see an ant, other than maybe the little sugar ants, for 6 months. Not a single ant.

Bonus, you wont see any termites either.
