Im looking to add some cameras to our house. We have a ring doorbell, but Im not tied to that system in any way.

I was looking at replacing 3 floodlights as I dont really want to look at a separate camera. Unless, there is a compelling reason why I should go with stand alone cameras, Id rather something with an easy to use app.

Blink and Ring are both on sale right now, so I was looking at both of those for ease of use.

Ring vs Blink | Doorbells, Indoor Cams & Outdoor Cameras
Suggest watching these and take a look through the comments are your discretion.

I enjoy my Ring Doorbell camera and picked that due to the quality over the other cameras I had researched. Not sure how the other type of cameras compare but I can't imagine there isn't much difference.

The $30/year Ring plan is worth it if you haven't gotten it yet.

I have blink. It kinda sucks. Anything 15ft away and it may or may not pick up any motion when it’s supposed it.

It's going to be a similar story with anything that doesn't have 24/7 local recording, especially if battery powered.

Ill have to watch that later, I also found that Swann makes a flood light camera. I might have to see if I can get those with local recording.

The motion sensing thing isnt as important as constant recording.

With Swann look into the night vision quality (mine suck, but have ring floodlights in the important areas) and you will most likely need upgrade the hard drive as the in the box doesn’t hold recording for very long

I have several ring cameras and a doorbell. Very happy with them. Wish they could record 24/7 but you can set them to record a snapshot every 30 seconds.
Motion sensitivity and motion detection zone adjustment all work good.
Hope this helps.

I've been posting about EZVIZ cameras on the Tech board about how good they are.

Example: EZVIZ C8W Pro, 5MP/3K, 4mm lense. About $130 on Amazon. WiFi network + DC cable powered.

- Great app to totally customize each camera individually to set up the following features:

EZVIZ C8W Pro Features:

- PTZ camera with up to 12 pre set locations for quick change manual scanning.
- After motion event has stopped for maybe 30 seconds, the camera will return to the preset position you choose.
- Records to SD card. No subscription. Cloud recording is available ($$).
- Free AI. Detects Humans, Vehicles and/or any motion.
- Auto tracks human movement. If video setting is set to highest quality, camera will auto zoom while tracking person.
- Settings for camera audio upon motion detection are Mute, Soft Ding, Siren, or customizable recording of your voice or any sound.
- Has built in spotlight (solid light, strobe light, or off). Spotlight can also be turned on (flashlight feature) if you just want to look outside in the dark in color.
- 2-way Audio. Speaker is loud.
- You can view all of your cameras (or any subset of your cameras) live simultaneously on your phone with customizable view sizes.
- Records continuously or just record events.
- Records all events separately from continuous recording, sortable by human or vehicle or all motion with thumbnails
- Records all events starting at 10 seconds before event trigger.
- You can set different audible phone notification sounds to distinguish human from vehicle detection.
- You can arm and unarmed all of your cameras with a single click.
- If you have the spotlight turned on, any night events are recorded in color.
- Says it detects out to 100'. In reality it detects human movement within about 70' and vehicles are detected beyond 100'. Both are excellent detection ranges
- Gets some false alarms but much less than my Reolink and Wyze V3 cams.

I have never heard of any other camera on the market that has all of the above features.

I can be asleep, or at a store, or visiting in another state, etc, and get a human detection notification on my phone. I can quickly live view all of my cameras simultaneously over my smart phone via cell signal and see everything going on around my house.

From an intruders perspective walking up to my house from any direction in the middle of the night, they are going to have one or more cameras tracking them shining the camera spotlight in their face as they approach.

These cameras are not perfect. You can spend a whole lot more for Ethernet connected cameras with better lens, but not with all of the features. If there happens to be a rare WiFi issue, the cameras still record, track and perform how you have them set. These cameras will automatically reset themselves after a power outage. Sometimes, notifications are delayed. They are usually pretty instant. Spiders can cause false notications. Overall these cameras work great over 95% of the time with no issues. Any issues are just temporary like the random WiFi, power, or spider false notification issue.

Ya, I dont know if a complete floodlight/camera is going to work for me. Seems like they all require you to keep the switch on and then control the floodlights with the app. I may just have to put a standalone camera on the corners.

blink for just checking in on your house and seeing what's going on is great.

the motion is terrible and the doorbell answering is ok to mediocre at best.

i mainly want to be able to check in on my dogs, or answer the door if i'm not there or my wife is alone and doesn't want to. blink is fine and cost effective for that, knowing there were better options out there.

Of the two, I would get the Ring. I have both and am not happy with the Blink cameras.
