Can I use swing pipe/funny pipe, poly tubing instead of pvc for in ground sprinklers?

I would like to run about 30 ft of pipe and 3 sprinkler heads in an area with a lot of obstructions. Flexible hose would be much easier to route, but I’m afraid it wont handle water pressure like pvc. Anyone know about this stuff? If I can just use it instead of pvc?

I’ve used it a couple of times when I wasn’t able to get pvc all the way to the head area. I still got pvc as close as possible though.

It will handle the pressure just fine. It will cut your water volume by half though. It may work for mp rotators but certainly not rotors

Cut volume by half? Does that mean it won’t go as far, or just simply everything is the same just less water? Damn. I was hoping to use rotors

Less water and less pressure. You have a smaller ID for water to pass through, but it also depends on what the pressure is at your bib (or wherever you're running your water from)

if it's only 30', why not just run it with SCH 40 and be done? You're already digging the trench anyway.

It’s a curvy area with about 1-2” of top soil sitting on top of rock. It’s easier for to just lay 1/2 inch tubing under the grass, instead of digging that rocky trench for a 1” pipe. Basically, I was just hoping I could avoid the extra work, pick axing my way through rock, and get the same results.

We may be different baws but I like to do my stuff once the right way and be done with it I didn't know you had rocks to chip through. You're right, would be a PITA

Only concern I see with your proposed set up is the lack of water capacity. To put things in perspective, I ran 1" or 3/4" SCH 40 about 70' across my backyard and on that line I have 4-5 rotors and they all throw that water super far. Two of them have 25' range.

FYI I was a DIY'er and had never done a sprinkler system before tackling that headache.

80psi fire hose is a different animal from a 80psi garden hose. People pay too much attention to psi instead of gallons per minute (water volume). Irrigation systems have to have good GPM. Pressure washers too

The real answer OP is it depends. Do you have the funny pipe already? Run it above ground into a 5 gallon bucket and measure the time it takes to fill it up, then determine your GPM. That's your answer.

Yes it cuts down on your possibilities, but you may still be fine. Maybe just have to run that zone an extra 5 minutes or something. Also, rotors have adjustable GPM, so you can likely decrease their output to help your situation.
