Is this an easy fix? It was running fine until just now.
You can hear the motor running, but now the blades aren't spinning.

do not know much about the inner working of ceiling fans, but had a bathroom exhaust fan do that and had to replace. The motor will get hot as hell. The motor might be fine but the shaft could be seized up.

quote:Is the motor running or just humming. Because if the motor is running the blades have to be turning. Now if that puppy is just humming then the motor is likely shot.

Try the switch at the motor that changes direction of the blades.

Probably the capacitor pack. Easy to replace. If you take off the plate at the bottom where the light is or would go, it should be a box with probably 5 wires coming out of it. If you look on the the box it will tell you the uf of each "speed". Find one that matches the uf of each speed and number of wires on Amazon.
It will look something like this:

fans are $100. It's easier to change the whole fan

You could change the whole fan, but if you like the fan and don't want to change the fan, the capacitor packs are like $8.00. I just did all four in my garage, two were failed on low speed. I spent $32.00 to fix four Hunters vs $400 to replace them with Harbor Breeze cheapos. Not all fans are $100.

Ty
Yeh. These are hunters they dont make anymore. There are 2 next to each other so I would have to replace both to get them to match.

I had to replace the capacitor pack in one in my house last fall. Not a hard job and a cheap fix, but finding the right pack was a pain in the arse.
