So my elderly neighbor's husband passed away a few weeks ago, and I was indirectly asked to take care her yard for a bit. She has a pretty significant weed issue right now, both broadleaf and grassy types. I know it hasn't been treated this year, so I wanted to put down a pre & post. What I have handy is Prodiamine & MSM Turf, but I have a few questions for those more knowledgeable.

I live in Atlanta, and its starting to get cold. Soil temp is 65 and dropping. Bermuda isn't dormant yet, but it definitely isn't greening as fast as it used to.

1) Is it too late (temp, dormancy) to spray MSM Turf?
2) If its not too late for MSM Turf, can I mix MSM Turf and Prodiamine in the same solution so I only have to spray once?
3) If I can mix them together, about how much of each would I need per gallon. Her yard is only around 500sqft, so I just plan to use a 2 gallon sprayer
4) I've always been told not to fertilize bermuda past September. So I'm guessing its too late to throw down some fertilizer for her?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just a little out of my element here. I stick to a decent schedule for my yard so I've never had to do all this at once. I don't want to kill the old lady's yard...

Thanks for any and all help

You can mix and spray Prodiamine and MSM Turf together. 0.5 gram MSM Turf (= 1/8 teaspoon) per 1000 sq ft and 4 oz of Prodiamine per 1000 sq ft mixed, so 1/2 those amounts for 500 sq ft. Mix in 1 gallon of water and spray the entire content over the 500 sq ft. Add the Prodiamine first, mix and then add the MSM Turf to the solution.

As a a later follow up in a few weeks you could spray 1 fluid oz of Fertilome Weed-Free-Zone + 8 fluid oz of Atrazine per 1000 sq ft, mixed together in 1 gallon or 2 gallons of water, so 1/2 the amount of those herbicides for 500 sq ft, in 1 gallon of water, sprayed over 500 sq ft.

In both herbicides mixtures, add 2 teaspoons of surfactant per gallon of solution.

Of course, many winter weed seeds have already germinated at soil temps of 70 F, but not all.

No fertilizer until next spring.

This should do a decent job on the broadleafs, you’d have to let us know what type of grassy weeds you are dealing with. Anyway, thats my suggestion - sounds like you have the Prodiamine and MSM Turf on hand. And remember the Prodiamine needs to be watered in, so after a couple days post-application, in the absence of rain, water the lawn to move Prodiamine into the soil - root zone of germinating weed seeds.
