Any of you have any concrete poured lately? If so, what did you pay?

I just got an estimate and about fell out of my chair. $1.25/SF to demo and haul away existing driveway, which is fair enough. $19/SF for the form and pour, with materials, however…

This is a guy I’ve used a couple of times before and he’s been reasonable. He told me when he was out measuring that construction is dead and he’s never been so slow. No wonder, if that’s what he thinks he’s gonna get! I’ll obviously be getting other estimates…

I need to have this done soon too, I hope that’s not the price in my area.

For reference, I’m in NOLA metro, and this is NOT what flatwork should cost.

Since it’s a small job, I expect to overpay, but his price is simply robbery.

Depends on square footage - most people have a minimum. But $19 per square foot - yikes. For a 500 square foot flat work area that would be more than 10k including the tear out. Thats only 6 1/2 yards, which is over every ready mix company's minimum order to ship without a short load charge.

Last patio addition we did was 250 sq ft, I think it ran the homeowner $13/SF.

My job is around 700SF. The apron portion has to be 6”, and should be around 11 yards, so I’d get hit with a short load charge on the 2nd truck. But, yeah, his quote was just over $14K all in.

Negative on the short load charge for the second truck. You get one order back after the last full truck. Some companies in NOLA and BR have the capacity to haul 12 yards also. But no one will charge you a short load charge if you order 10 and call back another yard or 2.
A 700 square foot job with demo and haul off like you are describing should run right now around $13 - $14 per square foot with all the bells and whistles like joints cut, tieing into existing, expansion board, etc - maybe the top end of that or a hair more to add keyway and caulk. Not trying to tell others how to price things, but thats around what I would expect right now and more than what I was quoting for that stuff a decade ago when I was doing it.

Just to keep this going for the board’s benefit/amusement, I just got a 2nd estimate back right under $12/SF, including demo/haul away.

I would jump on that - seems from the outside looking in like that is a good price. Just make sure that they do it the way it needs to be done - cut joints or put keyway at appropriate spacing, tie into any existing, proper slope, proper depth, and proper cleanup after. Remember - the trucks need somewhere to wash out - it's not legal for them to get back on the road with concrete/rocks/residue still in the chutes. Thats an added expense that people often overlook.
