Looking to have gutters installed on my house. What is the average cost after buying/installation? Looking for around 30-40 ft. total for areas needed.

30 to 40 feet could be anywhere between $150-$400 installed for seamless depending on the total length, complexity/difficulty, if there are any downspouts, leaf shields, and so on.

If it's a simple job and easy to access, you can buy gutter pieces at Lowes or Home Depot. Small jobs are easy to DIY.

I would love to know more about this. I need gutters so bad in the back.

For about 400 feet of seamless gutters with 11 down spouts and debris shields it was about $5,400. Hope your roof line isn't complicated...

I just got a quote for 6” brown half rounds with 4” round downspouts that was around $11/ft, but the standard 6” gutters will run you anywhere from 10-20% less. You’re probably looking at more per foot, though, since it’s such a small job. I’d guess you could get someone to do it for $500-600...

Check out the homewyse.com (yes, with the "y").
It's a good cost estimator for home projects.

Seemless gutters are way better than the 10' sections you get at Lowe's. In my experience, any gutter leaking condition always occurs at the seams. So, if you can eliminate the seems, it's extra good

I had gutters installed last month. I used Advanced Seamless because of their lifetime warranty on labor and material.

$2500
340’ SF musket brown aluminum gutters
9 round downspouts
27 round elbows
10 outside mitres
2 inside mitres
14 end caps
6 scupper
5 splash guard Zip screws

Came out to $7.36 per foot.

Mine is pretty simple. I have never installed any before, but the more DIY I can do, the more I save. Thank you all for the advice, it’s greatly appreciated!

Let me know if you go the DIY route. I’m thinking of doing the same.

Is this just for one run on the side or back of a house?

If so, that is a piece of cake for a DIY project. If going with 2 downspouts near the ends simply make sure the center is secured higher to the roof line than the ends so the water will fall to the ends. All you need is an inch or less fall toward the ends to work right.

Back in the day I use to install galvanized style K 6 inch gutters in 10 ft. lengths and solder the seams, outlets, endcaps and all the angled cuts in the downspouts. Now you can buy aluminum and just pop rivet them together and used a good gutter sealant to waterproof the seams.

This is good . $7 per linear foot is where you should be at.

To those of you paying $15 per foot.... have you ever heard of getting 3 estimates? Sheesh.

If you’ve got someone who does K gutters in the NOLA area for anywhere close to $7/LF, let me know. I’ve had multiple estimates, and the cheapest I’ve seen is $9 (including tear down of existing, $8 w/o). Also, the OP has 30’ to replace. Someone may come out for $210, but not around here.

I want to do this. I have a couple of fairly simple and accessible areas that could use gutters.
Are any of the plastic gutters worth considering? I'm thinking I wouldn't ever have to be concerned with deteriorating coating. Or will the plastic degrade substantially to the point of needing replacing or at least looking bad?

It’s called sweat equity and it’s worth every penny. I bought my first house when I was 23 and my friends thought I was nuts. I drank beer, put big hunks of cheap meat on the grill, good music and went to work. I did it all by myself-roof, gutters, refinished wood floors, tile, cabinets, paint you name it. 8 years later I doubled my money when I sold and most friends were still in apartments.

I still do a lot of the work because I like it. My wife does too. She cleaned all the gutters this morning between rain storms since a downpipe was clogged.

One thing I spend money on is good tools but I still have and use a lot of them I bought for that house 35 years ago.

Get tough with it and good luck.

I have to make a correction. I misread the invoice earlier. It was 320’ instead of 340’. That comes out to $7.82 per foot. That was for 6” K style aluminum. Regardless, I was ok with the price and they did quality work.

I agree with others that DIY is probably the best way to go for only 30’ of roof.

I have absolutely no experience with plastic gutters and would not really think too highly of them unless they were in a pretty thick gauge of material------and even then, I'd pass.

Not sure how the sunlight and UV rays would affect their longevity, but I do know almost anything plastic tends to get brittle when exposed to the sun.

I couldn’t agree more. My father-in-law is great with fixer-uppers and we remodeled my whole house. For what it is now, I could easily flip it for a profit. I’m trying to update it as much as possible. Most of the inside work is done besides a little furniture here and there and curtains. My wife and I do things here and there. I’m working on the outside now. I have worked on my flowerbed and edging, the next project is my gutters. It’s something I need after getting all this rain. I like seeing a work in progress done by myself so I’ll go the sweat equity route. Haha.

Plastic systems aren't bad but I would relegate them to secondary structures like shops and garages. They are easy to install but they need a lot of extra hardware and support.

Don't know the exact footage without looking at the estimate, but I'm getting seamless gutters installed along the entire front and back of my home, other than over the garage in front. Costing me $535.
