Decomposed granite patio

I have an area that is about 25’x29’ that I’m about to install a patio on. This area is a part of my dirt pad (compacted fill dirt) and is adjacent to my carport and covered patio. Already installed a French drain along the concrete perimeter and the dirt pad is slope for drainage. Any advice on installing a patio with decomposed granite? Planning on renting a plate compactor and running it on the base dirt then compacting the granite in 1” lifts until I reach about a 3” depth. Just looking for any tips or things to avoid. TIA

you pretty much got it
you’ll need to constrain it on the edges unless you want it to gradually disappear into the grass.

I have about 100’ of decomposed granite walkways lined with Oklahoma chopped stone. I love it.
I would lay down mats before the rock. You can lay that granite down pretty thin making it really no more expensive than gravel. Mine is no more than 2” anywhere. It packs itself in for the most part.
I’m wanting to scoop out about 5-10 yards of other rocks I have in various areas. Wish I discovered the granite sooner.
It will give up a few pebbles here and there when blowing off leaves and grass but it’s not a big deal. Spurge grows well in it also so it requires some kind of preemergemt treatment every so often.

Decomposed granite is a wonderful, compacted weed-free surface in arid regions. It becomes less so where heavy rains cause a buildup of soil within the crust material. That soil will support a good weed crop. Weeds are a fact of Iife in So La. Just plan some labor and chem app.

3/8 pea gravel is $80/yd and granite is $125/yd. I’ll go look at it on Monday but very well might use the pea gravel instead.

The fines get stuck in your shoe, and end up inside. Same will happen with pea gravel, but not as jagged edges, so not as likely to scratch your floor surfacing.

10-4 about the fines regarding compaction and tracking in under shoes. Anyone try using sprayed mulch glue to hold gravel in place? I’ve seen several promising videos but don’t know anyone that has tried it.
