I looked out at my lawn today and what i thought was clover (impossible- i eradicated those 2 months ago) was actually a large field of new deer mushrooms. How should I best get rid of them (there are hundreds) and will they harm my dogs?

If they actually are deer mushrooms they are edible, and people forage and eat them all the time. They'll probably give the dog the shits if it eats a bunch of them, though.

That said, you should make damn sure they are deer mushrooms. I don't even trust myself to ID mushrooms.

Yeah- i’m going on internet pics and an i.d. App I picked up, but identifying shrooms scares me.

Do you have trees in your yard? Had any stumps ground or used hardwood mulch or compost? I think those mushrooms need decaying hardwood to grow.

Yeah, they’re where trees used to be before they were removed and ground up.

I have the same problem right now. Put down a fungicide last weekend and it seems to have fertilized them...

How can I get rid of them? I do have a tree stump in the area that had been ground a couple years ago, so I'm sure the roots are nice and rotted at this point.

I don't really know. They'll go away when it dries up some. It may take a certain fungicide to get rid of them, I've never really looked into it.

why would you need to get rid of them? What you see is the fruiting body of the fungus. The actual organism is deep underground. It is decomposing the buried wood matter

It really is a vital part of soil ecology. They just look unsightly, I guess.

Woke up today and they’re gone. The coons and rabbits must have had a feast!
