Does anyone have a pool with the Diamond Brite Isla Verde pool plaster or know anyone that does?

I’m trying to get an idea of what the water color will look like. There’s only 2 photos on the SGM website and one is a crap photo and I’m pretty sure the other is not Isla Verde at all.

My pool builder hasn’t done a pool with that color so he has nothing to show me.

Join Facebook groups (Salt Water Pools, Gunite Pool Owners, etc) and do a search within them. That’s what we did when trying to decide on colors. I saved a few different pics for the wife to compare and select a color.

Many of the colors look different in various sun/shade combinations, depth of water, etc. So make sure you get a few to look at.

Yeah you’re right, that’s probably the best place. I just hate messing with Facebook

Man we struggled with this, we asked and asked about colors from friends, no one knew the color of their pool.

Well, here we are 7 months later and I cant remember what we picked.

That color is going to be a medium blue. So much depends on factors, sun angle, clouds, color of clouds. We wanted a lighter color, ours goes from light blue to medium gray depending on light conditions.

Follow-up question. We had our diamondbrite plaster installed last week. Most of it is pretty smooth but there are a couple of areas on the bench where it is pretty rough. Any idea how to smooth that out?

Did they do an acid wash before filling the pool with water? If so, they might’ve let the acid sit too long on that horizontal surface of the bench.

I think if you scrub it a good bit it should smooth out. I hear a lot of people talking about brushing with a wire brush daily for the first 3 weeks to prevent mottling but I’d be too concerned to damage the plaster so I’d use a stiff nylon brush.

My in laws re-plastered their pool with diamond brite and it is awesome. They did it in a dark grey so it made the pool a reflection pool and it looks amazing.

As far as the smoothness the pool and steps are pretty consistent. Is the plaster or the aggregate rough. If the aggregate is showing I don't know that brushing it will help. I'd have the pool contractor look at it they may need to redo the steps.

yeah, we had to brush ours twice a day, but he specifically said to use a nylon brush and to not slip up and use the metal one.

I recently had to use the metal for some black algae. I let salt get low and the chlorine dropped as well. Now I get to fight this shite. I think I have it on the run. They say it can be a bitch to get rid of

Thanks, they did plaster and filled up the pool last week and didn't start the equipment and get us a brush until yesterday - so everything has been sitting. Contractor has been impossible to communicate with so I am sure getting him to do anything will be a fight. Was trying to figure this part out on my own if possible.

Yeah, I have heard that the initial couple weeks are incredibly important to have the plaster cure correctly.

We added tons of acid, and also brushed it like crazy people.

Black mold is awful to deal with. It pits the plaster and it will come back. Brush as much as possible and keep your chlorine high. We even took a pressure washer to ours. We eventually moved so no clue how the new owners are dealing with it.
