Does anyone know if Porter Cable's 20v system batteries fit any other brand of tools?

Just small home projects, I finally got burnt out on the constant battery issues with Ryobi and got rid of all their stuff. I was halfway thinking about trying that Hart brand from Walmart or maybe the Bauer line from Harbor freight (im not a contractor and didn't see the need for the expense of Milwaukee or Dewalt) That being said my wife told her dad while looking for christmas stuff this last year and he got me a combo drill, circular saw, sawzall and light from porter cable without really asking. Tools are fine so far but it almost seems like stanley black and decker or whomever owns it is trying to kill that line and they dont have hardly any tools. No cordless vac, yard tools, compressors etc. I would prefer to have one system but have no issues with the porter cable tools i have. Is there another brand i can buy a tool only and my current batteries work?

You're complaining about the battery life on a Ryobi yet will go with a Harbor Freight?

Don't go cheap and you won't have cheap results baw

The ryobi batteries would just quit working all together within a year. It was probably more of a quick reaction than was necessary but it is what it is. So I'm guessing you have no clue whether or not batteries cross manufacturers?

Therefore, you will only need to buy it once. Buy good shite, and only do it once. Or, buy shite, and you'll never have your tools in good working order when you need them.

From what I read Ryobi has a 3yr warranty. Why not try and contact them to see if you can send them in and get some new batteries.

I know Dewalt has a 3yr warranty on their batteries. It use to be that you could bring them to the service center and they would give you new ones right there if the date code on them was with in 3yrs. Now since they closed the center in Baton Rouge and New Orleans you have to send the to a service center in Atlanta or Houston.

Look on eBay or Amazon for battery adapters. They have ones that go across different voltages and even brands of batteries.

I bought a couple and converted DeWalt 18 volt power tools to the newer 20 volt max batteries. They run strong just as well the as the 20 volt tools. And I picked up some used 18 volt dewalt tools (jig saw, impact, drill, hand grinder all 4 about $100 total) really cheap on Facebook that run great on 20 volt.

Ditto on the adapters from above.

I was gifted a bunch of porter cable stuff, and then they re-badged it all to craftsman. And lo and behold... even though the batteries appear identical, they are slightly different.

I keep waiting for the last one to die to move back to Makita.

I have a couple kick arse extension cords.

Batteries are like college text books.

The m12 line from Milwaukee has been my go to. Great battery life and much smaller lighter tools.
