Does Rock Salt do a good job removing unwanted tree roots?

salt kills.
I use it to kill chicken tree stumps after cutting.
it only takes a couple months

I've heard it works, but takes quite a bit of time.

It's not going to dissolve the roots if that is what you are asking. It will kill the tree and any other vegetation it is applied to, and will render the soil there useless for quite some time. Don't use salt if you'd like anything to grow there ...

I’ve used table salt to kill a stump. A tree remover recommended that I drill some holes and pour salt in it. It worked. But it does not accelerate rotting.

I also use table salt to kill the weeds growing through driveway expansion joints. It’s the cheapest and easiest way to do it.

Well, you are just speeding up eating away any steel in your slab.
