Does Rock Salt do a good job removing unwanted tree roots?

It's not going to dissolve the roots if that is what you are asking. It will kill the tree and any other vegetation it is applied to, and will render the soil there useless for quite some time. Don't use salt if you'd like anything to grow there ...

I’ve used table salt to kill a stump. A tree remover recommended that I drill some holes and pour salt in it. It worked. But it does not accelerate rotting.
I also use table salt to kill the weeds growing through driveway expansion joints. It’s the cheapest and easiest way to do it.
