I have a terrible infestation of doveweed in my lawn. I have bermuda in the backyard and St. Augustine in the front. I have been using msm turf to battle the Virginia Buttonweed but it doesn’t do anything to the doveweed.

Celsius is the only thing I found that touched my doveweed. It laughed at MSM turf.

You need Celsius herbicide for good post-emergent control of doveweed. Specticle herbicide for pre-emergent control.

I have same situation....when is best time to apply Specticle to stop doveweed? It seems to popup late summer, so is a spring application too early?

I do mid March and then very beginning of May. It eliminated like 95% of my doveweed problem. It also did great for poa in the winter too.

Usually mid April to early May - Doveweed seeds germinate at a soil temperature of 70 F. With a wet summer a second application can be made July/August. (advice from Dr Ron Strahan, weed extension specialist, LSU AgCenter).

FYI Ron has recently taken an administrative role in the Northwest Region of the state. A search for his replacement will begin soon. Big shoes to fill as he is extremely knowledgeable and one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Went to Grad School together.

I use blindside. Takes two applications but it knocks it out.

This constant rain has sprouted Dove Weed all throughout my hood.

I put down Tenacity this weekend. It’s starting to tint white.

For the second year in a row it has exploded in my backyard. It’s like there’s nothing one day then it’s half the yard the next. Last year it ended up leaving a giant bare spot that I eventually got filled in right before it started again. I’ve used celcius but it only seems to be keeping it at bay so to speak. I definitely need a better pre emergent plan next year. I put down prodiamine in March but I guess I should have done a second app or used something different. I have simazine, prodiamine, specticle l, and tenacity so I should have it all covered. Just got to get the schedule right.

Celsius blasted my dove weed. I’ve been using it this summer on VBW without much success but that dove weed didn’t stand a chance.

This is interesting to me. My doveweed doesn’t seem to be hurt by Celsius or even Roundup.

I don’t think roundup hurts doveweed

Good to know. How long do folks usually see Celsius need to impact it? I’ve been wondering it’d it’s actually killing it, just extremely slowly.

Celsius should take care of it in two applications about two weeks apart. You can't use the low rate though.

Blindside worked for me as well, but my centipede does NOT like it much either

Spectricide with Atrizine knocks it out. I used it mid July.

I burned some spots. In my zoysia with blindside. I’m scared to treat any large spots right now because it’s so hot and dry. I’ll have to get on it earlier next year.
