My dogs are getting fleas every time we let them outside. What can I used to kill the fleas in the grass?

I think Talstar works on just about anything in your yard. Will kill adult fleas but not eggs. You’ll need to do a double treatment

Bifen/talstar ,For adults. Tekko pro for the other.

Telstar granules are the way to go. You can pick up a bag at Shenandoah hardware in jones creek. Ask them for application tips. I put it down 2x a year pretty heavy and had no problems.

When is the best time to lay it out? Is it toxic to dogs?

Spray bifenthrin or Imidacloprid every 7 days for about 3 weeks.
You’re not going to kill the eggs so you have to put out multiple applications to catch them as they hatch.
Also look into getting your dogs on Bravecto. I’ve never had any luck with a topical flea prevention but the pill does wonders for my pups

Talstar is supposed to be watered in so right before a light rain. I never paid attention because it seemed like it rained every other day when I lived in baton rouge. I would keep the dog off the lawn till a good rain or you could just water the lawn. One bag would last you 2 years for a typical Shenandoah lawn.

Talstar granuals are the way to go. Easy to put down, really hard to overdo it. Buy enough to give your neighbors a 'gift' if that is feasible.

Put it down now, not toxic to dogs, but keep them inside or kenneled while you apply, and water in soon after application either by rain or sprinkler.

Use Over and Out (main use is fire ants but active ingredient is same as front line- Fipronil) Twice a year no fleas/ no fire ants

Are you sure Over and Out containing fipronil is still available for lawn application use? My understanding it is now a restricted use insecticide for that application and I no longer see it stores. The “Over and Out” I see in stores contains bifenthrin.
But you are right about fipronil’s effectiveness as a flea and ant treatment for lawns, it has a long residual time, which is one reason it’s a very good termiticide.

Is the area you let them into fenced?

Just go to Shenandoah Hardware and ask them how much to put down and instead of once a year do it 2x. The large XL bag lasted me 2 years for a typical lawn in Shenandoah. On the back of the package it has what to set the settings for your spreader depending on what bugs you want to kill. Before I moved I bought 4 bags from him and will buy more next time I am in Baton Rouge.
Not only does it kill the fleas, it will pretty much kill anything bug related.

I had a flea problem in the spring. I used Bifen IT along with Pivot 10 in a spray rig.
Very important to do a second spraying 14 days later. We have been flea free since.

Any permethrin or cypermethrin spray will kill fleas and most other bugs and is safe around pets and humans. Just wait until dry to reintroduce pets to the area. Eggs hatch out every 7 days, so I would spray again for 2-3 weeks. Demon WP or Cyper WSP(generic) 40% cypermethrin are ideal. They are wettable powders that leave a fine powdery residue that lasts longer. It is safe to use inside and outside the home, and is what most professional pest control companies use.
