Located in Ascension Parish.

80 linear feet on one side. 60 linear feet on another side. 6 ft. boards.

Prefer cedar over pine. I've heard that cedar is about 20 % more expensive. Is this true? And if so, is it worth the price difference?

Also, I'd rather deck / wood screws over nails.

I've read from older posts about several different companies that have been recommended on here, and I am going to reach out to them next week. I'm just looking for a ballpark idea of what to expect from a cost perspective.

My two fences that came down because of Francine lasted 15 years, so it was time.

I had some damaged fence repaired in EBR 8m ago, and installer said that a full replacement would be $45/ft. It wasn't a formal quote. For the repair they used a 6' treated pine and nails.

On some older fencing I used cedar for areas that could be seen from the street and treated pine for rest of yard. The cedar looked much better for about 5 years. Now there is little difference. I have not been applying any wood treatment. The cedar would probably look better if I did.

For the repair the installer said that nails were better. I didn't push the matter. Nails seem faster with a gun.

I was also told that the quality of available 6"x6" large posts for gate posts is quite poor now. If you want large gate posts use metal.

Installed my fence with Cedar planks years ago and I had the same experience as you did. After 4-5 years it looks the same as pine. Now, I never sealed it so that would probably help.

I paid 8400 for about 350 linear feet pine fence replacement with 3 gates in SE BR in May. Quotes ranged up to 11k for pine. They wanted about 1800 more for Cedar across the quotes. So I guess you are looking at 25 to 45 per linear foot for pine, 30 to 50 for Cedar.

Board-on-board oil stained cedar with cedar top plate, face plate, and toe board w/ metal posts should be $40/ft in DFW. I did DIY for $20 a few years back and it looks like prices are pretty much back to that level.

Edit: toe boards are treated SPF, not cedar.

Big fence company in Shreveport area quoted $30 a foot for cedar, plus $6 a foot to haul away the old fence. An individual who has done fence as a side gig for decades is $29 a foot, including haul away. This is for a rebuild of backyard fence and two gates.

Im in NWFL, but I just got a quote for $4600 for 192 linear ft. It was my wife so I'm not sure of all the details.

But over $30/ ft for pine seems absurd, if I got $24

I'm just curious, why? Maybe no one around me has cedar, idk.

Pressure wash pine every 4-5 years and its pretty damn solid.

In regards to screws, just have it nailed. Once a year walk around with a drill and screws and tighten loose boards. Its the best and most economical way. Even screwed in boards will break occasionally.

I just measured a 10-year old cedar fence board and a treated pine board. While looking the same, the pine shrinkage is greater. The gap width between boards in the fence is noticeable for the treated pine but not the cedar panels.

If you can wait a few weeks, the hurricane price gouging should decrease.

You’ll pay quite a bit more for screws, but ring shank nails are actually superior to screws when it comes to attaching fence boards.

Agree. My cedar pickets like to crack when they have screws in them even if I pre drill.

Thank you, I am going to look into this.

If I understand correctly, shoots with a nail gun, but grips better than a nail -- and less time-consuming than a wood screw, right?
