Grass at Augusta National

What we know for sure:
All areas except the greens are Perennial Ryegrass from October to May.
The greens are bent grass and stay cool enough year around through underground cooling systems.
Ok, now that that’s out of the way…
What is all of this talk about a brown summer Augusta being in its “dormant state”?
Supposedly, the turf at Augusta is Bermuda, but Bermuda ain’t “dormant” in the summer, nor is it dormant in the fall, not even in late fall…
So what’s up with the brown grass from the summer time aerial photos?
And why are articles calling it “Augusta in its dormant state”? And “dormant Bermuda grass at Augusta”.
Example
This photo was taken in September. Bermuda is arguably in its prime in September. It’s far, far, from dormant.
Is this a misnomer? Are the journalists not smart?
Do they not know the difference between .25 scalped Bermuda that might possibly be sprayed out?
That’s the only thing that I can figure is going on for Bermuda to look like that in September.
OR, are we looking at true dormant Rye? Because, if they’re closed, why the need for Bermuda for just four months?

The bentgrass greens at Augusta really pop next to the dormant bermuda.

One of the mysteries of ANGC that we will never know

In the Fall as the nights become cooler, the bermudagrass goes dormant, stops growing, and turns brown.

Once the weather patterns are desirable to grow cool season grasses, the bermudagrass is scalped down from tee to green to almost nothing.

I don’t think it’s dormant but it probably just can’t grow and stay green like they want. I was always under the impression that it was basically just a “matting” to hold the over seeding. That brown is probably just dead rye.

If that pic is from Sept then yeah I would just have to believe that is scalped grass(whether it's bermuda or whatever) in preparation overseeding prg for the open months.

(I'm going to ask you this every month)...
Why don't you just start a thread?!

Wouldn't be surprised they resodded the entire course every year.
No cost is too much to make that course look top notch.
I highly recommend everyone go to a practice round there once in your lifetime, regardless of you interest in golf.
Stunning landscaping
