How do I get a Homemade utility trailer registered in Louisiana?

Louisiana state police does it. They will stamp a serial number number on it and register it after looking it over for safety requirements.
I did it a long time ago and don’t remember the exact process. There was a special location i had to go to to get it done, but it was in local area of Lake Charles.

not to hikack this but I just bought a utility trailer from a friend. He didnt have any papers on it. The plate is expired. Is there any way I can make this right?

I did this a long time ago, but recall going by a State Police troop for an inspection. I showed them photos of in progress work and receipts from materials. They stamped the serial/vin # and I think gave me some paperwork to bring to the DMV.

Then you didn’t legally buy it. He will have to go to DMV and get a duplicate title so that he can convey it to you. Taxes on sale price will have to be paid.
Any auto title company or DMV location should be able to request it for him.
