How secure are French Doors?

My wife wants to replace our front door with French doors. At our previous home we had a set of French doors in the back that I guarantee could be kicked in. Are all French doors this way?

A good set with latches into the frame and doors is just as safe if not safer than any window. If someone wants it, they’ll get in if you have any windows. I don’t know what they’re called, but the ones I have in my patio have locked that go up and down and into each door and they’re sturdy as shite. It’s all functioned from the handle, not slides. The hooks are stout and I’d pop a window or the door glass before I tried to kick the door in off frame or locks.

Any door can be kicked in. I’ve got French doors leading to my patio and I feel that it is no more or less secure than any of my other doors

My parents have french doors on a porch. I can open them with a credit card as quick as using a key.
If you don't use the primary french door often. Add some barrel latches to the primary door.

I have two sets of neuma french doors. You would have better luck trying to kick through the wall next to them and leave the doors alone.

its not very typical for a front door, but if you can make it an outswing door that will help some versus an inswing. not sure how often you actually use the front door but an outswing also works better against water and insects from getting in more than an inswing.

That being said, if you are talking about french doors with glass panes, I wouldn't worry about them being kicked in. It is a lot easier to break a window, reach in, and unlock the door.

they can be as secure as any other door. sometimes sealing between the doors can be an issue different than a standard door.
I have french doors with a regular latch by the handle, and deadbolt "hotel room style" above, and one of the doors has a top and bottom "switch" that secures to the frame upper and lower. it's secure.

True story. Neighbor across street built house and had French doors on a front room. He purposely installed them so they opened out so they would be hard to kick in. When he showed me and explained… I told him with a small hammer and screwdriver I could be in his house in 30 seconds.
Once he understood he replaced the hinges with closed end hinges.

If he ordered inswing doors and flipped them out he’s an idiot. If he ordered outswing doors and they didn’t put nrp hinges then he and the salesman are idiots.
