We have a wall of large windows and the outside face of the glass has spots and streaks which we can’t get clean. There’s a significant overhang on the outside so they don’t get direct rain. I’m considering using Rain-X window cleaner and treatment but before I do, just wondered if anyone had a tip on how to make the glass clear.

Use a very very lightly soaped rag and a good quality squeegee. Use Unger or another brand, Home depot sells them but they are the mid grade ones. You don't want too big of a squeegee 15-18" max or they don't do as good of a job. Also, don't get the squeegee and rag in one thing they sell, those are terrible. Time proven and never beaten method. They make some specialized rags

What this poster said. I have a large 2 story house with 31 windows in it and they are all the old style wood sash, double hung with most of them with only 2 large panes per sash.

I use a soap water solution to wash, have my hose close by and rinse off the soapy water and then use a squeegee to remove the water. Works like a charm for just about all the dirt that accumulates on the panes.

My wife got suckered into buying these Norwex window cleaner rags. One you soak with just tap water and scrub with, the other you wipe dry with. It freaks me out how well they actually work. No soap or chemicals.

Also if you have hard water in your area buy yourself a camper water filter and put in line on your hose if using one. I learned this by accident washing my truck and found it did not leave the hard water stains.

You can use a soap like Palmolive to help with hard water marks. I found rain x treatment helps but doesn't last long.

Once clean a good coat of a non abrasive car wax / polish, last longer than rain-x
