I know it’s a particular brand, but how did Skilsaw become synonymous with circular saw?

Those old Skil worm drives were absolute work horses. I
can’t definitively answer your question, but imagine that’s at least a big part of the reason.

I call my Dewalt circular saw a skil saw most of the time. I think skil saw was the first handheld circular saw.

Plus, it’s a lot easier to say than circular saw.
Like sawzall instead of reciprocating saw.

No, it's not. Sawzall, yes, but I've never, ever heard someone call a circular saw a Skilsaw.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say circular saw, only have seen it posted on the internet before. Everybody i know calls it a skil saw.

When I first started carpentering in the eighties, every circular saw on the job sites were Skilsaws. So someone would say get me a skilsaw. Took me a long time to get out of that habit.

The same way crecent wrench became synonymous with adjustable wrench.

My grandpa (RIP) was a carpenter. It was a skilsaw for him. He probably used his everyday.

I didn’t even know the proper term was “circular saw” growing up. But same with Bandaids and Qtips.

They basically invented the modern circular saw. I have a Mag77 but my Makita 5007 sidewinder is what I grab the most.

I've got a Skil worm drive and that thing is a beast. It plows through lumber like a hot knife through butter and you'd better have a decent grip on it when first hitting the trigger. The torque on that thing is real.
