Here is a link to a reference for identifying common trees in Louisiana by leaf shape and structure. Found it to be a nice crash course for my classes at LSU.
Enjoy.

Whenever I took a bunch of horticulture classes at LSU, Dr. Mirabello recommended Southern Plants by Neil Odenwald. It’s the Bible of everything you could ever want to learn about plants that grow in our climate. Neil dedicates a page to each plant, gives planting conditions, flower and leaf descriptions, growing form, best thriving selections, and more. The only downside to this book is that the pictures inside are black and white, but it’s still a phenomenal resource to own.

Nice. I have that book from a project in Mirabello’s class. I still probably reference it a couple times a year. Getting my $125 worth.

I took a plant identification class from Dr. Odenwald. He was the Dean of the Landscape Architecture department at the time but still taught some classes and had just released that book.
