There is unfinished attic space on both sides of my upstairs bonus room. The side my stairs go up is over the garage. The door on that side gets very hot in the summer and that heat radiates out. What kind of insulating should i do to that door?

They sell insulated tent like covers that work extremely well. They go on the inside ontop the door. They work really well IMO

As suggested, I put one of these tents in last year and I should have done it 15 years sooner. It takes 5 minutes with a staple gun. You can find them on Amazon easily. $25-30 and great!

I ordered a tent for my attic stairs from Amazon. Super easy to install, just need a stapler. Can easily tell the difference in the hallway after installed

Should have mentioned this earlier, this is a regular vertical stand up interior door.

I did the foam weather strip gasket stuff around the frame, and const. adhesived 1" foam from lowes to the back side of the door.

I did one of these and used a staple gun and insulating tape to secure it. It has made a remarkable difference in Winter trapping heat in house and Summer trapping it out.

For like $40 total.

Can't believe every attic door doesn't come with one already on there.

Or this has a zipper

Or you can just put foam insulation around edges of door

I've got a similar situation. Regular sized door inswings into the attic. It's an exterior door frame (weatherstripping all around with ext sill) and looks like all the rest in the house except it's hollow. Not sure how much heat/cool is lost or gained but have thought about adhering some 2 inch pink insulating board to the back.

+1. My attic door is right by the thermostat and it was obvious how much less the HVAC cycled on. Not a 100% air seal but pretty close and creates a nice temperature barrier. When in the dead of summer or the coldest in winter, the second you unzip that cover your environment changes immediately . It's crazy how well that little cover works.
