Insulated vs Non Insulated Patio Cover

Was getting prices for a patio cover and thought insulated was the way to go mostly for sond proof since the patio is attatched to the house. One contractor told me to not waste my money on insulated. He said the insulated are just as noisy, its just a "pitch" difference. He also informed me that the insulated covers are more prone to leaking as the interlocking system on uninsulated panels are superior. He was the only one to willingly offer this info and said He would sell me whichever, but was trying to save me money. Any experience with this?

I’ve had 2 insulated patio covers. Never had a leak and the sound difference is significant to me.
Also, it is not hot to the touch, like an uninsulated one would be, meaning it will not reradiate heat under the patio. I’ve been told they are more difficult to install and that some contractors prefer not to because of that.
If I ever get another patio cover, it’ll be insulated. I’m just a homeowner and not an expert on this so take that for what it’s worth.

You know, you can also install roof panels (glue and screw) on top and then put down felt and shingles on those. You will eliminate the noise.
I am thinking about using them for the top of a new cedar beam patio with a 4/12 gabled pitch and doing just this. The cost is a little higher than using wood tongue and groove boards, but zero maintenance and much brighter reflection of light under it into the house so it doesn't feel like a cave.

I went throught this a couple of years ago. Unless you are closing in the patio I see no reason for insulated. And as far as it being much hotter under a non insulated patio cover, this is simply not true. My contractor gave me a reference before deciding. On a hot summer day I put a thermometer under my carport which would be better than any insulated patio cover. I them took the thermometer to the reference patio cover if which was NOT insulated. You guess it, no difference in temperature.
Not scientific I know but a pretty good indicator never the less.
